libfreetype6 missing in the dependencies of ubuntu Pharo distribution

Hi, I've just tried installing pharo from package manager on Elementary OS, which is a ubuntu derivative. All went well, except fonts weren't working in 32 bit version, and I had to install by hand "libfreetype6:i386" ... is it missing in the dependencies? Thanks, Peter

FileStream deprecation in Pharo7

tl;dr could we extend PackageManifest>>#isDeprecated to provide reasoning and pointers to potential replacements? I was loading some of my code into a Pharo7 image and while debugging noticed that FileStream is deprecated (text stroke through in the Playground). But neither the FileStream class comment nor the the ManifestDeprecatedFileStream have an indication of what to use instead. What do you think of making the deprecation notice carry more signal? E.g. provide reasoning of why it was removed ("simplification", "no replacement for XYZ", "Look at XYZ")?

Raspberry Pi

Hi, I'm trying to run a headless Pharo 6.1 server on a Raspberry Pi following the instructions on https://medium.com/concerning-pharo/pharo-pi-9eef257b6a21. The latest vm I can download is from 14 dec 2017 (see http://files.pharo.org/vm/pharoS/raspbian/) and only works with Pharo 4.0. Are Pharo 6 and 7 not being built for ARM anymore? UFFI and autoRelease

I'm using autoRelease on some FFIOpaqueObject instances. I need to test some behavior when I delete explicitly one of these objects. âHow to remove these objects from the finalization list, in order they are not freed two times. TLS/SSL and SocketStreams

Hello, In the process of maintaining a small IRC client I have written, I'm trying to add the option to connect over SSL. Of course ensuring valid certificates and the handshake et al is quite complicated. Instead I'm attempting to rely on Zodiac's `ZdcSecureSocketStream` instead of a regular `SocketStream` for the connection. Here is where I run into a snag: `ZdcSecureSocketStream` is it's own complete rewrite. And though there are attempts to keep many of the same messages as `SocketStream`, some of the key ones are missing. In particular, I would like to have `#upToAll:` and even `nextLine` if possible. Attempting to subclass and implement them myself has been a disaster, since `ZdcSecureSocketStream` is actually quite complex. Can anyone help me with the following: * Is there a better way to implement an SSL connection over a socket? * Who maintains Zodiac? How can I contact them? Thanks -- Eric

Launcher not launching

Hello On Windows 10, I updated launcher from the one on https://ci.inria.fr/pharo/view/Launcher/job/Package-and-Publish-Launcher-st… (1.0.1) to the one now on official website http://pharo.org/web/download (1.1), but the new launcher does not open any images. I can create, rename, remove images or do whatever with them, but they do no launch ... their VM gets downloaded, launcher closes (if it is set to close on launch - it does not close if not set so), then nothing - the image does not open, no new Pharo.exe process in list of processes in Windows. Tried disabling AV, (re)installing to different directory, selecting different directories for images and vms, trying various Pharo versions (from 3 to 7) of images, still nothing. It does not work with both old and new images (downloaded by old working launcher or by this new one). There are no exceptions, no crash dumps, nothing in stderr. Those images can be opened by double clicking on them or by dragging and dropping them on C:\Users\User\Documents\Pharo\vms\61-x86\Pharo.exe (or similar - the same executable as Launcher should use). Also if I install back the old launcher (1.0.1) again, it works. The new launcher does not work on both of my machines (both Windows 10 that are quite similar in config and installed applications). Right repo for TaskIt and features?

Hey! I look into using Taskit for a new development and wondered about some features. What is the right upstream repository? What are the goals to get builds greens? I wondered if somebody thought of remote task execution? What I am missing is handling for overload. E.g. before queuing too many tasks I would prefer an exception to be raised (or the task blocking/slowing down). Signalling an exception is probably more reasonable as one task could queue another task (while >>#value is being executed...). What are the plans here? I can mitigate by always using futures and using >>#waitForCompletion:.. Are there ideas how to add remote task scheduling? Maybe use Seamless for it? Have workers connect to the scheduler? Other ideas? Who would have time to review an approach and the code? cheers holger

Proper way to file in code
