StCAD is open source

Hi: I have just open source StCAD (MIT license) which has the code for freeCAD. http://askoh.com/stcad Although written in VisualWorks Smalltalk, I hope Pharo users will port it in part or whole. All the best, Aik-Siong Koh What is 'StCAD'? 'StCAD' is a basic 3D CAD framework in Smalltalk (VisualWorks 8.x). It extends the GF/ST 2D drawing framework into 3D. It also include 'StCAD-Geo' which is the 3D geometric domain, 'StCAD-Math' which provides the mathematical support for 3D CAD and motion simulation computations, and 'StCAD-Doc' which is a simple word processor. 'StCAD-Math' is also suitable for engineering, scientific and business computing. The parcels are open source using MIT License. Users can use these parcels with other private software to create 3D applications like motion simulation, finite element analysis, CAD, scientific visualization, etc. 'StCAD' allows users to create and manipulate assemblies, which are collections of 3D parts. The parts are 3D solids, which can be connected by joints, constraints, contacts, actuators, springs, dampers or forces. The parts and connections define the structure or mechanism that the assembly is meant to represent. Animation is possible, if the user can provide time series of position and orientation data for the parts. Users can also obtain output data in the form of plots and tables. XY plots can be zoomed and set to equal scales. Data series available include linear and angular displacements, velocities, accelerations and other user generated data. 'StCAD' has been used to create a freeware called 'freeCAD' which is a 3D CAD with Motion Simulation. Usage of String and FileLocator to reference files in ZipArchive (and probably other places)

Hi, I've stumbled upon a 7.0 incompatibility with regards to how file names are treated. In 6.1, I can use Strings and FileLocators interchangeably to create and read Zip archives. That's because StandardFileStream does the magic behind the screnes. In 7.0, StandardFileStream has been deprecated, and "File openForReadFileNamed:" is used instead. That method does not handle FileLocators, so code that uses FileLocators to open Zip archives ceased to work. What's the preferred solution? It strikes me as illogical that objects which were made to reference files can't be used to reference files in these contexts. Playing with Pharo 7

Hi everyone, after finishing the Pharo MOOC, I have started to play with a simple project of my own, initially using Pharo 6.1. Since Pharo 7 seems to be coming soon, I wanted to try it out, and that lead to a few practical questions. 1) How do you move your personal environment to a new image? If I have to re-do my settings and re-load one by one the packages I use, I won't be trying out new images more than strictly necessary. 2) My test project lives on GitHub, so I fired up Iceberg under Pharo 7 to load it. Works fine... but I cannot commit and push under Pharo 7. Iceberg pretends that there are no changes. With Pharo 6.1, this works very well. Has the operation of Iceberg changed significantly? If so, what would be the best place to learn about this? Any pointers would be appreciated! Cheers, Konrad.

Reify RBLiteralNode and RBBlockNode args/return with MetaLink?

Hi, I am currently playing with MetaLinks in Pharo 7 and stumbled upon some issues. For example, I found that instrumenting message sends may break compilation (see https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/22681/Metalink-on-message-may-break-compi… <https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/22681/Metalink-on-message-may-break-compi…>). Two other issues also arised: i) How do I reify the value of an RB(Valuel|Literal|LiteralValue)Node? RFValueReification does not work, and there is no reification for literal, value, or literal value nodes. ii) How do I reify arguments and results of blocks? I tried reify context for the block body #before and value for #after block "last", but I often run into the problem of no reification for literals. iii) How are cascaded message sends reified? Am I supposed to instrument the cascade node or the individual message sends? I am grateful for any pointers towards a solution. Unable to compile myself Pharo

VPS difficulties

I'm creating the competition website using Pharo and Teapot. For encryption, I'm using Pierce Ng's PasswordCrypt, which requires a 32-bit C library. This means I must run 32-bit Pharo. And this means I must run 32-bit Pharo under 32-bit Linux. Therein lies the rub... I would like to host the website at DigitalOcean or Linode or OVH. As far as I can tell, however, these services do not support 32-bit Linux, only 64-bit. What can I do?

Hi all, Iâm trying to declare a BaselinOf to load lots of Packages. My aim is to have a kind of distribution (so students donât have to load packages). Iâm new to Iceberg + BaselinOf + Metacello. I target only P7. Let's say I want to load Teapot and NeoJSON (development version). Teapot depends on NeoJSON (#stable). So, whatever the order of declaration in the BaselineOfMyProject, Iâd like not to have the following conflict: So is it possible to tell to load : - Teapot , then NeoJSON (updating to NeoJSON the dependancies of Teapot) - NeoJSON (#latest) then Teapot (ignoring the NeoJSON stable of Teapot baseline). I know I risk breaking Teapot (but I donât care :), I want latest NeoJSON. So is it possible to define such constraints ? Iâm aware of that way of loading from Metacello : Metacello new baseline: 'NeoCSV'; repository: 'gitlocal://../../iceberg/svenvc/NeoCSV' ; onConflict: [ :err | err useIncoming ]; onUpgrade: [ :err | err useIncoming ]; load Still, not sure, of the meaning of #useIncoming (#allow #disallow). 1) Does one mean keep/load the latest ? 2) is it possible to launch such Metacello installation from Iceberg ?
