Bloated image again. Memory leak?

Hi guys, I have this problem (http://forum.world.st/Huge-image-td4876854.html) now the image grow about 100MB per week and the suggestions shown on http://forum.world.st/Huge-image-td4876854.html don't work I'm on Pharo 5 on a mac. Hi Stephane, Yes it seems to be an issue with the sources file. Maybe my workflow is wrong? When I want to store an image somewhere else, I always left+click and select save as... to save my image. As far as I understand Pharo, it then saves the image and a changes file in the selected directory. The sources file should stay in the Pharo distribution folder, under the share directory, shouldn't it? The sources file is present in my share folder, I don't know why Pharo looks into pharo6.0-64/bin/lib/pharo/5.0- 201705310241/ (that's the path from the error message). ...BTW I'm wondering why the mailing list sends my mails as .eml attachments? I used it daily and it does not come from the formatter. Pharo6 server deployment and no home directory

Hi, as Pharo6 is around the corner I have moved my CI build from tracking Pharo5 to Pharo6 but I run into a problem. Either if $HOME is not set at all or $HOME points to a wrong directory I run into the error below. As this is a server application and I run multiple VMs with the same image and there is no home directory I would prefer that no information is persisted at all. Can this be done? Have there been any changes in Pharo6 in regard to this? It also seems to change from Fuel->Ston for the identifier? Hello, since Pharo6 my method comments in the SystemBrowser gets automatically removed. My arguments get also removed, so when I type: SomeClass >> name: aString "sets the name instance variable" name := aString it gets corrected to: SomeClass >> name: arg1 name := arg1 How can I configure this behaviour? Can not save the source file

Hello, when I open up my Pharo6.0 image and left+click > save as... to save my image, Pharo tells me that it could no save the source file. Loading Dr. Geo in Pharo6

Hi, When I install DrGeo from its configuration file in Pharo6, I got the following VM error. I guess the addStartUpList protocol is obsolete. One option is to modify Dr. Geo code in Pharo3 to remove startup activation, save in the repo, then load newer code in Pharo6, and get it fixed. Zink geo location data reading

Hi, I'm playing around with Zink reading the geo location of any IP-address. Evaluating the code below in a playground works fine. But what is the best way to read the entity data of the ZnResponse instance I get back. About how to benchmark the lookup speed...

Hi, i'm having trouble doing benchmarks in Pharo, at least i don't understand the results (maybe i'm missing something). I want to compare anonymous subclasses lookup speed with standard pharo classes lookup speed. I have a method m and a method m2 that execute the following code: ^ 100 printString. I have implemented these 2 methods in one class then in one anonymous subclass. I thought that measuring the execution speed of the same code in these two different cases would give me different times if the lookup speed was not the same. So I did the following: |o results repetitions | o := theClass new. results := OrderedCollection new. repetitions := 100. repetitions timesRepeat:[ results add: [1000000 timesRepeat:[o m]] timeToRun]. I do the same for m2, and then i compute an average of all the values measured in results. What i don't understand is that, for example, for an average on 100 measurements, m is 1% slower and m2 is 2% faster in the Pharo class case than with anonymous subclasses. But for 1 000 measurements, m is 11% faster but m2 is 3% slower. Results continue to vary as i change the number of measurements, but they do not increase with it (seems not to be linear). I don't have enough knowledge about how to benchmark code, or what will make a difference in Pharo. For now the only explanations i have is that maybe the results are too slow to be significant and then they can vary, or i have done something wrong in how i measure it. How would you measure the lookup speed of a method ? Steven.

Metacello / Iceberg flags

Hi All, I'm sure I saw a message on this list (maybe pharo-dev) that specified a flag that will cause github repositories loaded through Metacello to be automatically added to Iceberg. My memory is that it was on prior to the Pharo 6 release, and turned off just before the release. I've searched through the mailing list archives, but haven't been able to find it. Help in thinking about how to save a "program"

Hi all. Iâm new to Pharo and loving it. As I transition from a text-file based mindset, Iâm a little stuck and would appreciate help in how to think about a situation in a Pharonic (Pharo-ish, Pharoc?) way. Iâm crafting a short program to help me process a large text file (specifically: extract, sorting, and regularizing the âkeywordâ fields of a large BibTex file). Especially since I donât really know what Iâm doing, working in a Playground has been a great development environment. Now that the program is complete (under 30 lines, wonderful), I want to be able to save it for future reference (and perhaps for future use). If Iâd written a shell script, Iâd just save âfixBibDeskKeyWords.shâ to a directory. Iâm not sure what to do in the Pharo environment, thought. At the moment, it just lives in the Playground Iâve developed it on. I could save the image and leave that Playground open, but Iâm just positive thatâs not a best practice. I also worry about what happens if I closed/cleared that Playground by accident. I think I understand that, if I created a new package, I could use Monticello to save it to a local cache and load it into a new image whenever I needed it. But, given that itâs short, highly specialized and fairly linear, the idea of creating a âGHBibDeskStuffâ package with one class (âGBibDeskKeywordFixerâ containing a single âFixFileâ method seems really heavy and awkward. Can one save the contents of a Playground in a Pharonic way? Is there a better approach? Thank you to all involved in this wonderful programming ecosystem. I appreciate any advice. How to use frameworks like SDL2, GTK+ with Pharo?

I'm a Pharo newbie. How can I use libraries like SDL2 or GTK+ from Pharo? Should this be done through FFI or a VM plugin? And in either case is there a guide to how to implement things using that technique?
