Hello, Is the Pharo team aware of the http://webassembly.org/ effort? The Browser Preview tentative is for Q1, do you think it is a good opportunity to push Pharo to web development more easily? I know next to nothing of VM binary (lol), but I am curious on how one could provide an Smalltalk (in this particular Pharo) application in the web using webassembly, as the project is aimed to broaden the development choices to something different than Javascript or Transpilers (which I profoundly wishes to succeed since I hate js) . Japanese Fonts

Hello, I am trying to get Japanese characters to show up in my Pharo image. Following some advice I found on google, I have set my font to something that I think should handle Japanese characters: defaultFont := LogicalFont familyName: 'Droid Sans Fallback' pointSize: 18. StandardFonts defaultFont: defaultFont. I then used the settings browser to force that to all system fonts. I did not notice a change to any of the text when I did this, so I am not sure it worked. Also, Japanese text still shows up as spaces. Does anyone know whether this is something I need to deal with in Pharo, on Ubuntu, or both? As far as I can tell, the font is on my system. Launching OSWindow windows when in headless mode

I would like to launch my application main morph in an OS Window from a pharo image run in headless mode from the command line. But this just gives me a libSDL2 not found error. I'm using pharo 6 on linux. Is it possible to use OSWindow to open windows from a headless image? I want my main application window to be an OS window rather than the pharo application window. The big advantage of doing this (on linux at least) is that you have control over the title and size of the window. It is not possible to set the size and title of the pharo application image window in linux because of bugs. Modeling a join table

Hello, all. This question is not as much a question about smalltalk as one about modeling in smalltalk. I am currently writing an API using Teapot that will be serving up data about internet radio stations. I want to be able to let users tag the stations with arbitrary tags. Using a relational database, I would create an object like "Tagging" with foreign keys pointing to the "Stations" class and the "Tag" Class. It would have station_id and tag_id. If this was going to be even a tiny bit more complex, I would probably just make it a polymorphic association.Â My question is, how would I approach this in smalltalk? Would I just make methods on tag and station (and whatever else) that stored arrays of each other? Would I create an intermediary model like "Tagging" and have that do the heavy lifting? Ideas? Workspace/Playground/System browser documentation

I am interested into any form of documentation , besides the obvious one (class comments and unit tests) , concerning Workspace, Playgrounds, System Browser, Inspector and Debugger . I am only interested only on documentation about the internals of those tools, I have already studied documentation about their usages and how can be extended from the usual sources. Is there any or am I asking too much ? I will be creating my own System Browser and Workspace in the near future so its important to not replicate code and use what there is already there. But to use code means that I have to understand it first.

FFI on MacOS 10.12 using Pharo 5

Hello, I need help rescuing code that has dependencies on FFI. I just downloaded the latest Pharo 5 vm in order to run Pharo under MacOS 10.12. Now the FFI-based code in my image no longer works (or is viewable). What worked before (for years, up through MacOS 10.11) is as follows: I have a 32-bit lib (i386) called ThePlugin.bundle (C code compiled w/ Xcode). I put it in Pharo.app/Contents/MacOS/Contents/Plugins/. The lib has a C function like: int someNumber() { return 123; } In Smalltalk I have a class ThePluginFFI with the class method: someNumber <cdecl: int 'someNumber' () module: 'ThePlugin'> ^self externalCallFailed And if I typed "ThePluginFFI someNumber" I got 123 Now I get "External module not found". If I try to view the method "someNumber" I get an MNU from RBFFLCallPragma>>selectorParts (receiver of "keywords" is nil), and the image hangs. I tried rewriting the method someNumber to look like this: someNumber ^self ffiCall: #( int someNumber() ) module: ThePlugin uniqueInstance where ThePlugin is a subclass of FFILibrary with an instance method: macModuleName ^'ThePlugin.bundle' but this still gets "External module not found" Is there some new way of doing all this? Or some new trick to loading libraries (I tried dylibs as well as bundles). I couldn't find a recent summary/update. Thanks for any help! 6.0 vm crash in FreeTypeFace

Hi all, Iâd like to report a vm crash of the 6.0 vm in a 5.0 image on MacOS El Capitan. It happened when running some tests, no Roassal stuff this time. Hi sven I'm trying to adapt the teapot library example to get a simple item collector (as a project for a future book) and so that I can learn and use it for my PS2/PS3 game collection :) Now when I set up teapot to emit JSON I get an NeoJSONMappingNotFound In the library example attila does not manipulate objects but dictionaries. So I imagine that I have to do something :) I read the NeoJSON chapter but I did not find the solution. Should I implement neoJsonOn: on my domain?
