protobufs for Pharo

Hey all, Has anyone implemented protobufs for Pharo yet? Iâve not managed to find any examples, so I assume the answer is ânoâ, but I thought Iâd check here before rolling up my sleeves and writing one myself. (My specific target here is to write a RethinkDB driver, so if someone has magically also done *that*, please let me know, too.) Thanks, --Benjamin

Hi, I installed ViDI on Pharo 4 following the project instructions detailed in its GitHub page: Gofer new smalltalkhubUser: 'YuriyTymchuk' project: 'Configuration'; configurationOf: 'Vidi'; load. #ConfigurationOfVidi asClass loadStable When I launch a review session over any package I always get the following error: "Could not find accesor for variable named "aModuleName" in NativeBoost>>#loadModule:" I'm very interested in this kind of quality assurance tools, so any help will be very welcomed. New methods for the String class

Hi to all, As you may know I'm working on in some improvements for the String class. Until now I implemented some missing tests. Right now I'm looking forward to add new methods that could be useful based on Ruby API ( http://www.ruby-doc.org/core-2.1.0/String.html) These are a few of the methods that I'm planning to implement: - chomp(separator=$/) -> new_str - chop() -> new_str - ljust(integer, padstr='') ->new_str - next -> new_str - partition(sep) -> [head, sep, tail] Could you help to find out if these methods are already available for the String class? brick/bloc examples missing FILOStack

Hi, I wanted to try new brick/bloc thing https://pharoweekly.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/future-new-widget-sets-is-comi… however after loading (in Pharo 5.0) it is complaining about missing FILOStack (in BlBrickLayouter>>initialize) What should I load? Thanks, Peter

OpenCL problems since we switch to OS X 10.10.3

Hi Ronie, since we switch here from OS X 10.10.2 to 10.10.3, your OpenCL framework doesn't not work anymore ... We crash Pharo everytime we try to use GPU. Roasal: Putting a white background instead of a transparent one in word clouds

Hi, I have finally finished the first part of my visualization project of political discourses on Twitter. You can see the details here: http://mutabit.com/offray/static/blog/output/posts/visualizing-politiciansp… (As you can see Pharo was not used to extract the data, just to scrap it, structure it and visualize it). The politicians tag cloud look nice if the background is white, because the png background is transparent, but if you share it on Twitter, the black background makes the tag cloud invisible. I could use image editing programs to change the background from transparent to white, but I would like to know if there is a way to make that change inside Pharo/Roasal. Woden-Roassal pharo5 inspector bugs

Hi, I just noticed that with today's pharo5 image the inspector breaks if Woden-Roassal is in the image. The reason is that there is a recursive call to String>>#findAnySubStr: startingAt: . This is caused by the deprecation of such method then defined as String>>#findAnySubstring: startingAt: . The first call gets the String>>#findAnySubStr: startingAt: which gives the warning and calls ByteString>>#findAnySubstring: startingAt: (in Woden-Roassal package) which calls String>>#findAnySubStr: startingAt: and so on. Now my question is, do you plan on moving Woden to Pharo5? Sorry to bother you all the time. Cheers, Nicolas

Issue with UDP Sockets

Hello everyone, I am currently trying to get a list of UPnP device via SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol). A minimalistic working NodeJS example looks like this: var dgram = require('dgram'); var message = new Buffer( "M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n" + "HOST:239.255.255.250:1900\r\n" + "MAN:\"ssdp:discover\"\r\n" + "ST:ssdp:all\r\n" + "MX:1\r\n" + "\r\n" ); var client = dgram.createSocket("udp4"); client.on("message", function (msg, rinfo) { console.log("server got: " + msg + " from " + rinfo.address + ":" + rinfo.port); }); client.send(message, 0, message.length, 1900, "239.255.255.250"); client.close(); I tried to recreate the same functionality in Pharo with the following piece of code: | message udpSocket host | message := 'M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n' , 'HOST:239.255.255.250:1900\r\n' , 'MAN:"ssdp:discover"\r\n' , 'ST:ssdp:all\r\n' , 'MX:1\r\n' , '\r\n'. udpSocket := Socket newUDP. host := (NetNameResolver addressFromString: '239.255.255.250'). udpSocket sendData: message toHost: host port: 1900. "udpSocket waitForData." Transcript show: 'Received: ' , udpSocket receiveData. udpSocket closeAndDestroy. Unfortunately, this script hangs both in Pharo3 and Pharo4 (OS X 10.10, Pharo 30856 and 40611). When I interrupt with Cmd+. the debugger shows the method Socket>>waitForDataIfClosed: and the hang is apparently in the line self readSemaphore wait Could anyone give me some advice if I should to do this differently or what the issue with the Pharo script is? To Camillo Bruni: I'm not using any slot image (I only looked over the paper). According to the Pharo book, 'pvt' should be implemented in the mainstream image. To Marcus Denker: There are actually several methods in the image with the 'pvt' prefix. Please update the doc (Pharo book) to remove talking about 'pvt'. It would have saved me a little headache :)
