Packaging Pharo for many distributions at once

Hi, I've packaged Pharo VM for the Nix package manager which can be installed on many Unix (e.g., Linux, MacOS X and FreeBSD). This works well but requires installing Nix on your Unix. Another solution is http://openbuildservice.org. Is any of you interested in trying to use this service to build Pharo VM packages for several Linux distributions automatically? I can help. Dear All, AgileVisualization.com , the book about Roassal, has been updated with a new chapter. The HTML versions of the chapter are also online. Agile Visualization is written using Pillar and Skeleton. Thanks Damien Cassou and Yuriy Tymchuk (Uko) for these wonderful frameworks. I am also looking for contributors. I know that some of you guys have done wonderful things with Roassal. Sharing your knowledge with the rest of us would be fantastic. Ring package, when to use it?

Hi! I am trying to understand in what scenarios is good to use Ring package instead of objects of compiled methods, classes and r-packages. It is not clear to me. For example if I want to ask for where a method/class/package is referenced should I consider the Ring package? When I should consider to use Ring? Thank you a lot, Juraj

[ANN] I stop maintaining the Ubuntu packages

Dear all, I've recently switched my Linux distribution from Ubuntu to NixOS. This means I can no longer maintain the Ubuntu packages and their PPA (https://launchpad.net/~pharo/) These packages need a maintainer! The good side of it is that it is not a lot of work as I did all the automating infrastructure: https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo-ubuntu. Basically, the maintainer will have to launch a few shell scripts regularly (once a month for example). I will obviously be available to help the new maintainer. The community needs *you*. Good news is: I packaged the Pharo VM for the Nix package manager which can be installed on many Unix (e.g., Linux, MacOS X, FreeBSD). Mac VM - developer unidentified

Hi, Today I downloaded Pharo vm from pharo.org. When I try to open the VM I get this security notification from Mac and it didn't happen with earlier versions of Pharo VM. I'm running: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28). [image: Inline image 1] I should be able to change my security settings to run it but I prefer not to and for less knowledgable it can be a negative message. regards, usman

Hi, I'm working on the first version of my draft article about Pharo, wrote inside Pharo itself. I would like to illustrate the process of learning and building the software by making some graphs of the history of the Monticello repository and I'm wondering how difficult this could be. I'm thinking in something like: - A bar char with the amount of commits per day since the repo existed. - Number of methods in the package. - Total lines of code Any advice about how to use Moose/Roassal to create a "selfie" of the project's history is welcomed. FFI examples on Linux don't work

Forcing a library to load

Hi, How is it possible to force a library to load ? Namely I have large libraries on linux which depend on each other. I discovered that the equivalent code in C runs, but not in pharo using FFI, and one problem was that a dependent library was not loaded. Annick

LF instead of CR for new lines or writing about Pharo inside Pharo

Hi all! :-) Today is a good day because Pharo is helping me a lot in getting things done (like in the Black Eyed Peas song, but nerdy style). Here you can see a screenshot of the exportation of the outliner project I have been working on (still in alpha): http://www.enlightenment.org/ss/e-54206a705cafd9.68856727.jpg Down is the Pharo outliner, upper left the markdown exportation and upper right the pdf exportation. As you can see, I have small glitches that need to be solved, mainly the fact that new lines are represented in Pharo by default with CR instead of LR, which doesn't like so much to the Pandoc[1][2] exporter. So, there is any way to change this behaviour to make LF the default character? This has some implications when you're writing code inside System Browsers or Playgrounds instead of my particular app? If yes, there is any way to replace each CR for LF in a text object, inside Pharo?
