[ANN] Spec documentation in PFTE book finished

Hi all, I am happy to announce that Ben and I finished the documentation of Spec for the Pharo For The Enterprise book. This documentation is up-to-date with the latest version of Spec, and is focused towards people wanting to use it and even extend it (in contrast to the academic papers which are â¦ academic ;-) ). I hope that this text will help all the people that are building UIs in Pharo, and it will clear up any doubts that they may have. The chapter is available in source form from the GitHub project of the PFTE book: https://github.com/SquareBracketAssociates/PharoForTheEnterprise-english The easiest way to read the chapter is from the continuous integration server, which produces a html file of the chapter here: https://ci.inria.fr/pharo-contribution/job/PharoForTheEnterprise/lastSucces… (The same server also produces pdf and markdown files, but there are some strange artifacts there, currently. Problems Pharo 3.0 & Windows 8.1 (64 Bit)

Dear all, i have problems with Pharo 3.0 under Win 8.1 (64 Bit). When i quit Pharo and then restarting the it, Pharo-VM and Windows hangs. After some time (2-3 Minutes), the Pharo VM File Dialog opens. From time to time the Windows Desktop (!) crashes and restarts. No Problems under Windows 7. Looks like a Problem with the VM. Has someone else seen this behavior under Win 8.1? Hi, With the valuable help of the community and the GLMBasicExamples I have been able to build basic outlining interface and functionality. Now I would like to make the nodes in the tree persistent in the sense that if I wrote something in the node body (left upper part of the browser) and I select another node, when I visit the previous node, the text in the body still is there. How can I do this? 2. I would like to make the current node always selected by this blue highlighting. With some operations like moving nodes to the left or to the right, the current node gets out of focus, despite of the operations being done over it. There is any way to say Moose browsers where to put the selections, besides of explicit selection with the mouse. 3. Some time ago I asked about how to make tree labels (headers), at the left of the browsers editable. There is any way to make this? Thanks a lot, Offray

Hello, At Ta MÃ¨re, we are used to deploy Ruby/Rails application with Heroku or on VPS with Capistrano. Almost everybody uses the same tools and techniques in the Rails community so deployment is quite easy once you grasp the process. The same process was quite frustrating with Pharo. To solve that, we've built HelloPharo. It is a tool to deploy small apps to a Linux VPS/VM. It is heavily inspired by Capistrano, it prones convention over configuration and it wants to be full stack (e.g., serve the assets, restart the processes). It is built with Ansible. We haven't released a fixed version yet but the tool starts to be in a good-enough shape to be shown. We want to grab some feedback and fix the most obvious limitations (see the README for more) before releasing version 0.1.0. If you or your company uses a well defined process to deploy pharo webapps, we are all ears. We think that having a canonical way to deploy simple apps is a must if we want to see wider Pharo adoption for small web companies. This process *must* be Unix friendly if we want to attract Python or Ruby people. Most of them are Devops anyway, the command line is their friend, NOT something they want to avoid. This change was not captured in the image I posted before going to Cambridge. The post is now updated: fulloo.info/Downloads/BabyIDE-3a.zip The first slide is the top of the PersistentWorkspace named 'Introduction'. The second slide is at the bottom of that workspace. The demo program is in the colored window. There are 3 yellowbutton commands (use cases) 'animate shapes' - objects come and go 'animate roles' - animates the message flows of the repeated execution of some use case. All flows have the same topology. ALT-1 traces object ids. ALT-2 adds class names . ALT-3 adds role names. 'animate chaos arrows' animates message flows with no common topology. DCI has nothing to offer for such executions. TheWorldMenu>>open...>>BB5BankTransfer runs a very simple demo of the DCI concepts. (Transfer money from one bank account to another.) Installing STON from a playground/workspace

Hi, Last night I was playing with STON for a while. There is still things to learn (and I have already made my questions in the proper thread) but so far I have really like it. I installed it from Configuration Browser, but I would like to install it from a playground/workspace. I know where is located at SmalltalkHub and I can see there the Monticello registration, but in the chapter about Monticello this seems to be used for source control with graphical tools. How can I install STON from a playground/workspace instead of using graphical tools like Monticello or Configuration Browser? How can I know this from the SmalltalkHub page? Thanks Offray

Unintuitive behavior of class-side initialize

As class is just an object in Smalltalk, it would be reasonable to believe that #initialize message is always sent to class on creation. However, that's not true. It is only sent to classes that redefine #initialize. Also sending super initialize may lead to problems. None of these is mentioned in documentation (I assume Pahro By Example is the official one). It only says that #initialize is sent when class is loaded into memory.
