Hi, I made another attempt , a very basic one on window : trying to use the abs method in the standard lib. abs: aNumber <apicall: int 'abs' (int) module: 'c:\windows\system32\msvcr100.dll'> self externalCallFailed I get the error âcannot return the given typeâ. But now if I use long as argument and long as return it works. Annick

How pragma works to create menu?

In the NautilusRefactoring class we have a method on a class side: sourceCodeRefactoringMenu: aBuilder <nautilusGlobalSourceCodeMenu> | target | target := aBuilder model. target selectedClass ifNotNil: [:selectedClass | selectedClass sourceCodeRefactoring: aBuilder ] I'd like to understand how this line works: target := aBuilder model. I mean, how aBuilder initializes a model? Because, if you change the pragma from <nautilusGlobalSourceCodeMenu> to another one, you will get another result using this particular line. Tide startup

Hi, I have installed Tide with the current Pharo 30vm, bower 1.2.6 and node 0.10.29. The installation of Tide was with no error and access to the homepage (in http://localhost:1701/tide/github-cache/tide-framework/tide/master/...) is possible. The page loads but on the javascript console I can see an error within require.min.js line 8 located in tide directory / bower_components/amber/support/requirejs/ I hope this mailing list is the right address to ask if someone else has encountered this and how it could be fixed. I just extracted some PBKDF2 code from a bigger project. So if you want to derive keys from an non-optimal source (e.g. user input) or store non-reversible passwords with (tunable) secure salting/hashing then PBKDF2 is your friend. Building UI with Spec vs Pharo

Hi, what is the recommended framework for building UIs? As I understand it Spec should be able to handle pretty much anything, however Glamour has quite a lot of nice features and was recommended here http://forum.world.st/Roassal-amp-Spec-td4690745.html as a higher-level abstraction framework (albeit the issue here was mostly Roassal which as I understand is a non issue since there is Roassal2Spec package). However I haven't seen things like forms (text inputs, checkboxes, (radio)selects, buttons) or popups (yes/no confirmations, prompts) made in Glamour so I am unsure whether it is possible. Not much has changed since then. If you can manage to get away with using a higher level framework, you save time and effort. Glamour has less choice in widgets and layout, but in both you'll probably end up adding something that isn't there/ready yet. To understand how to add/complete something you'll have to dive into (Poly)Morph(ic) for both Spec and Glamour. Stephan

Red Exclamation in Nautilus?

Guys - it's been a while since I've used Pharo, and in 3.0 its come along with leaps and bounds. But I'm struggling to know what many things mean, and what the UI is telling me? Is it written up somewhere? I also quite quickly seemed to get into troubles with the new Nautilus browser where it gives me walkbacks and won't let me select things. I've started again with a new image and am trying again to do some simple things - and see if I can come up with the use cases. As a starting point - I've just created a new class, with a new Category name and the class has a red exclamation mark next to it. What does that mean? Also what is the difference between Add Class, and Add full Class in the context menu? I ended up just typing over the definition of an existing class as there is no flyover help for either of these to know what it does? Hi, I am trying to load Gstreamer from squeak source in Pharo 3.0, but it depends on VMMaker, and I donât know how to get the whole dependency tree. Has anybody tried it ? Annick Fron

Mongotalk & db.collection.distinct()

I am now using MongoTalk for a project and I wanted to use distinct. But there seems to be no support in the version that I do have. So, I had a look under the hood on how the driver worked. I came up with this: mongo := Mongo default open. db := mongo databaseNamed: 'somedb'. aCommandDict := { 'distinct' -> 'somecollection'. 'key' -> 'XYZ'. 'query' -> nil } asDictionary. reply := db command: aCommandDict. (CollectionValidation on: reply) isOK. distinct := reply at: #values. It would be nice to have some support for the distinct command in MongoTalk. Especially in order to populate dropboxes etc with choices. I have been looking at Voyage too but the data is not produced by my application, so there is little use for me to have #instanceOf fields etc. I will also need aggregation commands on my data set. Are these things somewhere to be found or do I have to look into how the shell does things and move from there? TIA Phil
