Spec: custom layouts for sub-models

I have a UI, let's call it ParentUI, which includes ChildUI - another ComposableModel. In the default layout, ChildUI includes a toolbar. When embedded in the ParentUI, I want the toolbars to be merged. It is easy to include the ChildUI tools in the ParentUI bar by adding ParentUI>>childTools, which I can then #add: to the layout. But the ChildUI tools also still show up in ChildUI (so they appear twice). I ended up defining ChildUI>>#noToolbarSpec, which I can pass to the layout like "add: #(#currentScenario. #noToolbarSpec)", and which delegates to ChildUI class>>#noToolbarSpec. I want to have the default ChildUI spec simply extend noToolbarSpec, but I didn't look into that yet. Anyway my question is: is this the best way to do what I'm trying to do? DateAndTime>>asTime

In Pharo V2, if I execute this snippet: | x | x := DateAndTime year: 1991 day: 196 hour: 20 minute: 5 second: 7. x asTime inspect I get '12:0-54:0-53 am' which is not what I expect. DateAndTime>>asTime changed from 1.4 to 2.0. Any ideas? How are we going to run the logistics of the Pharo merchandising? I have run a small business selling domain specific t-shirts, hats etc and I had a small online store running on a web server. That's nice from the point of view that it's sole purpose is the domain, but on the down side then it is a business with someone looking after stock and mailing etc. CafePress is an alternative. It seems pretty good at first glance. You can create your own designs and they do all the manufacture and shipping. The prices look ok and they are global. On te down side you are part of a massive base of products. I haven't looked in depth yet. There may be pitfalls. ok so I need to be writing code in Pharo whilst drinking coffee from a Pharo branded coffee mug. Am I right? Yes of course I am. I'll start 3 discussions: 1. What mechanism for the store front. 2. What images and message do we want to convey. 3. What products do we most want. Then, depending on what comes out of that I'll follow up to get something in place that will at least please some of the people some of the time. Pharo is hot! Changes-File & caching

Hello, I reported a bug I found in https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?10849_d0g95e46s78671vi The issue was closed in fogbugz. I couldn't really figure out why, until I looked at Penelope to find out that bug was considered a duplicate. I had a hard time finding that information and the information on the duplicate (I could figure it out yesterday night, but can't reproduce the way to find the information today). From what I understood yesterday, this bug is supposed to be fixed in Pharo-3.0? The images that are offered for downloading seem to all include this bug. I have a notebook with ubuntu-13.04 and 8GB RAM, of which around 7GB are used for hard disk caching. As far as I understood from reading the bug tracking entries, heavy caching triggers the bug earlier? Anyhow, with this bug, the changes file gets garbaged (or, at least, the pointers to it) and the image is unuseable. Abandoning the RemoteString error message looks to the user as if the issue wasn't all that bad, but is a nuclear attack on the image soon to come. Correct me if I am wrong please. About issue tracking: is the process closed to the public on purpose? I have to admit I misused the google code bugtracker in the past, because I reported an incident from the user point of view and later learned, that the bug reporting & fixing process was meant to be used only from a developers perspective. When I have a "user" issue - am I supposed to report to the mailing list instead and an issue will be created by the pharo core team? Kind regards, Markus

Questions about Magma

Hi all, I am new here in this list. I have already asked this question in stack overflow, but not much luck. So i thought ill contact the gurus directly. I am considering Magma to be used for one of my projects , which is nothing but a custom game center to connect my game and store user details and retrieve it. This would be the first time that i will be using pharo for one of my projects ( in fact this is the first time that i am able to decide for my self - the client has not preferences in terms of technology selection). So my concern is this, is Magama upgraded to be used in Pharo 2.0? What if i load it and change the SystemChangeNotifiers with SystemAnnouncer and so on , will it cause any trouble in the future. Hi everyone! My name is Mark and I'm new in Pharo community. I live in Ukraine and study in Ivan Franko National University of Lviv on the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. I've just finished my first year and now I want to study programming a lot (I have whole summer!). I hope, that after some time I will be able to create some cool things and also to inspire other novice programmers, as my friend inspired me. My dream is to create games. I know, that it can take a lot of time even for a simple ones, but I'm ready for it. Thank you guys for reading this. Mark.
