What is the time resolution for TimeStamp?

Hi List: I've looked at the source code for DateAndTime and TimeStamp but I do not understand it. | t1 t2 | t1 := TimeStamp now. (Delay forMilliseconds: 500 ) wait. t2 := TimeStamp now. (t2 - t1) nanoSeconds. ---> 0 DateAndTime>>clockPrecision says 1 nanosecond. Thanks in advance!

Hi, in a Configuration i have this baseline: baseline10: spec <version: '1.0-baseline'> spec for: #'common' do: [ spec blessing: #'baseline'. spec project: 'Nile' with: [ spec className: 'ConfigurationOfNile'; versionString: #bleedingEdge; loads: #('Core Tests' ); repository: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/MetacelloRepository' ]. spec repository: '/home/user/PharoFiles/package-cache'. spec package: 'Pattern' with: [spec requires: 'Nile']; package: 'Pattern-Tests' with: [spec requires: 'Pattern'.] ]. in the method version10 i have this: spec package: 'Pattern' with: 'Pattern-WernerKassens.14'; now i remove the package 'Pattern' and do a load with the configuration. no complaints by the configuration. but there is no package 'Pattern' visible in the browser. i open the monticello browser and there is a dirty package 'Pattern'. i open a browser on this package via the monticello browser and 'Pattern' is completely empty. but in the monticello browser the package shows the repository /home/user/PharoFiles/package-cache exactly as written in the baseline. i open that repository and of course can load 'Pattern' as expected . where did i go wrong? werner

A Newbie question. The code Transcript show: (3*5) printString. gives --> 15 a TranscriptStream '' The Transcript window does not open automatically. Is the code wrong or is an auto pop up of Transcript not provided?

Hi list, I'd love to have something like: #(#a #b) combinationsWith: #('one' 'two' 'three') collect: [:i :j | i , ' matches ' , j asString] That returns the collection: #('a matches one' 'a matches two' 'a matches three' 'b matches one' 'b matches two' 'b matches three') In other words, is there some kind of vectorial-product-like method for collections in Smalltalk? detecting and reacting to a race condition/infinite loop

Is there a way to detect when an image has entered an infinite loop? If so could I then halt it, save the image, and reboot from a previously known good configuration automatically? I have a site with a weird bug on a remote server that has become annoying to debug because when the infinite loop occurs the RFB process becomes unresponsive. Or maybe I should stop running headless temporarily and use X forwarding through SSH. Anyways, is there a way to detect an infinite loop an react to it? Thanks Paul

Hapao installation

Hello, I tried to download Hapao in Pharo 1.2.2 with the code in the Hapao website : Gofer new squeaksource: 'Spy'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSpy'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfSpy) perform: #loadDefault When I load the packages, there is a dependency with SubscriptionRegistry package, what is this package ? Finally, when I want to run Hapao in the Pharo menu, there is the following message: MessageNotUnderstood: PluggableDialogWindow>>beResizeable. In fact this message does not exist in the system, is it because of SubscriptionRegistry package isn't load ? Or because I did something wrong ? Thanks for answers. Romain

Pharo showcase demos?

Question: what do you show to other people when you want to demo Pharo/Smalltalk? in 15 minutes / 30 minutes / 1 hour Do you have a typical example? Do you use a kata? Or a full blown application? What tools do you show? I'm looking for successful recipes/topos to present Pharo in a technical context: the premice is that people are interested by Pharo, but they will not be convinced by a toy case and a basic demo of tools. A TDD demo would be more efficient I guess. That would be cool to have a list of such showcases depending on the context (duration of demo, technical level of people, interest...) -- Simon Denier

Fuel: Could not find a serializer with id=0

I've serialized an object with Fuel and can't get it back in another image: Could not find a serializer with id=0 in FLCluster class>>forId: The instance variable 'serializersById' contains a dictionary with other integers than 0 for its keys (1, 2, 3, 4, 7, etc). Is it a known problem, something I'm doing wrong? Maybe because I've serialized an object from Pharo 1.2 to 1.3? Cheers, Fa

Hi all, i would like to know what do you when your image freezee?. how do you find the problem? it's easy to kill the process and start again but in this case i really want to know what's going on Right now, im using Pharo image: Pharo1.3#13280 Virtual machine used: Squeak4.1 of 17 April 2010 [latest update: #9957] Platform Name: unix I've read the vm's options but i couldn't find something useful. what should i do? thanks in advance
