Hello all, These weeks I added new refactorings, following I will give some examples of them. *1. Create accessors with lazy initialization* This refactoring create accessors for variables with lazy initialization, for example: - we have a class Object subclass: #SomeClass instanceVariableNames: 'stringVar' classVariableNames: '' package: 'Example' - we can create accessors with lazy initialization executing this script: (RBCreateAccessorsWithLazyInitializationForVariableRefactoring variable: #stringVar class: SomeClass classVariable: false defaultValue: '''example''') execute the result of this refactoring is: SomeClass >> stringVar ^ stringVar ifNil: [ stringVar := '' ] SomeClass >> stringVar: anObject stringVar := anObject *2. Extract setUp refactoring* (is the first version by the moment, it need to be improved) This refactoring create a setUp method from a code fragment. You can select an interval of some code in a test method and call this refactoring to create a setUp method implementing that code and replace the code by nothing. The selected class need to be a subclass of TestCase. For example: - given a class TestCase subclass: #SomeTest instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' package: 'Example' SomeTest >>testFoo self x. self assert: true SomeTest >> self x self doSomething - To extract setUp method you can execute this script: (RBExtractSetUpMethodRefactoring extract: (10 to: 16) from: #testFoo in: SomeTest) execute the result of this refactoring is: SomeTest >> setUp super setUp. self x. Magritte+Seaside 3.4.4+Pharo issues

Hi I am posting these here (rather in desperation) as I seem to be stuck very erratically in Magritte. Magritte appeared to me the next best thing after sliced bread but somehow i just cant get it to toast. trying the simplest of the example - exercise 1 - from the booklet "Meta Data at work with Magritte" - item 4.3 - which is a form rendering CMPerson from the code example library Magritte-ContactManager - i now get errors / walkbacks in the Classes. Yet it seemed working earlier. pharo 8 - method versions - how to see author/timestamp?

Hi - Sometimes I want to revert to older versions of methods e.g. from an hour ago. In the "Recent versions of MyClass>>#myMethod" dialog no timestamps or authors are present. How do I see those? Thanks Paul

UK Smalltalk User Group meeting - Wednesday February 24th

The next meeting of the UK Smalltalk User Group will be on Wednesday, February 24th. Christian Haider will guide us in a tour of the Amber dialect of Smalltalk and its Silk web framework. In his own words... Amber [1], created by Nicolas Petton, is a Smalltalk implemented in JavaScript running in a web browser. Silk [2], written by the Amber maintainer Herby VojÄÃk, is a web framework in Amber. I was looking for a good solution for the web for a long time. At the last ESUG, I was bugging everybody about a Smalltalk in the browser, because I decided to redo the frontend of my current project [3] in Smalltalk instead of JavaScript. There were some developments, but only Amber was available. So I tried it for real on a little side project [4] to see if this route is viable - spoiler: it is! Silk, the web framework, caught my attention and I fell in love with it. Silk is very simple, straight forward and powerful, just the properties I love Smalltalk for. A Silk is basically a facade for a DOM node in the browser allowing the programmer to build up and manipulate the DOM in a direct way. Silk is so easy and intuitive that it never stood in the way and just worked. So, I could just concentrate on the complexities of the web (and the app). In this presentation I will walk you through the setup, show you the Amber tools and explore what you can do with Silk. I will try to justify my enthusiasm and appreciation for Silk :-). About me: My name is Christian Haider [5] and I use Smalltalk since the mid-90s. Fortunately, I earn my living with Smalltalk and use it on a daily bases (mostly VisualWorks). Migrating RBLintRules to Renraku rules

Hi, I have found out that RBLintRule will be deprecated. I have a code that uses RBLintRule and I need to migrate it to Renraku Rules. I have a code that applies an RB transformation rule to a set of packages. Currently, I obtain the changes of the transformation with the following code: (RBSmalllintChecker runRule: anRBTransformationRule onEnvironment: env) builder Can someone please explain me how to do this but using ReNodeRewriteRule and ReSmalllintChecker? Is there a file selector in Pharo

I am moving to Pharo from VisualAge Smalltalk as I am now using an M1 MacBook. I am building software to manage our home accounts and to do this, I download each day a text file from my bank that contains about 1 monthâs worth of transactions. In VAST, I use a FileSelector that opens a window and enables my to navigate to the Downloads folder and lets me select the current transaction file. This gives me the path to the file making it simple for me to open and parse it. Is there a similar file selector window that I can use in Pharo? I can see how to open the Glamour browsers but not how to extract the path. Can anyone help please? David Totally Objects
