Dear Smalltalkers, Serge and me just submitted the application for the GSoC (see its copy here: http://gsoc2013.esug.org/application) now let we wait finger crossed to the Monday 8.April when accepted organizations will be announced. But we have a good chance thanks to all of you spend a time to prepare the record number of ideas: 44, which is way over last year 25! Note also that you can still propose an project idea, there is two more weeks or so for that, but we need a solid list of ideas at that time for Google guys to see what we are really capable :) While idea authors please recheck that your idea is properly put on http://gsoc2013.esug.org/ideas. GLMMorphPresentation

Hello everyone, Does anybody have the full definition of GLMMorphPresentation such that is usable with Glamour, especifically with the GLMCompositePresentation?. Actually the only method it defines is #renderGlamorouslyOn:. On the other hand in my installed version of Glamour, GLMTabulator does not have the #using: method and in the monticello repositories does not seems to be a version that has it. In Moose Book=>Building browsers with Glamour=>custom presentations section (http://www.themoosebook.org/book/internals/glamour/presentations/custom) it is used for embeed a widget from Morphic. which is exacly what I need. If somebody knows the version used in the examples please let me know it. Thanks in advance, Jesus NuÃ±ez

SmalltalkHub and KOAmberJSFileLibrary

Hello, I am trying to load SmalltalkHub in my image. So far: Seaside 3 is in MongoTalk is in I do have an issue with Gofer new url: 'http://ss3.gemstone.com/ss/Kaliningrad'; package: 'ConfigurationOfKaliningrad'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfKaliningrad) project version: '0.1.1') load. Which complains about the BlockContext since it references something that has it inside. Is there any set of packages to load that properly? I'd like to have STH has a starting point for Amber+Pharo apps. Thx! Phil

Why are SmallTalk projects/source code hosted on SS3 Gemstone instead of Git/GitHub? I'm coming to SmallTalk from the world of web development with open source software, primarily Rails, and I'm very familiar with the amazing social network/source code repository that is GitHub. It is truly an industry defining entity, so many open source projects have been able to harness the ease of use, features and community around Git and GitHub. At the moment, as I'm trying to learn more about SmallTalk and Pharo especially, (my primary interest in Pharo is to use it as a web development platform), I am a bit shocked, if I may be frank, at the tooling used for source code and open source project management. I see that the popular trend now is to move to SS3/Gemstone, and I appreciate anyone that helps open source development/projects, but I can't see how they can even come close to the functionality of GitHub for source code hosting and OS project management, so I pose the question: is there an effort, why or why not, to start integrating with GitHub and Git for source code management? I know that historical precent and the tools built into Pharo/SmallTalk images, like Monticello are predecessors to GUI source control, but given the leaps that Git has managed to take, in distributed source code management, how does the existing SmallTalk community feel about it's current tooling in this regard? Updating an already open EyeSee Canvas.

Hello. I am trying to update an already existing eyesee canvas from within pharo 2.0. Basically I am getting live data in from a websocket stream, and want to use that live data to build a scatterplot chart. If I have a lot of data, I can already build the correct eyesee canvas using that data. However, I am having great problems trying to update the already existing canvas dynamically as more data comes in. I spent about 5 hours last night trying various combinations of message sends to the diagramrenderer, the esscatterplot diagram, the escanvas, etc. etc. Eventually I just gave up as I don't understand how the system works. Just to clarify, as long as speed is not a concern I don't mind re-drawing the entire eyesee window every time new data comes in, but the key is I do not want to open a new window every time as I'm sure that would be very user-unfriendly. Thanks, and thanks to the eyesee and moose team. help with tests

I need some help with tests. I have a set of classes for UI testing. There's an abstract super class that defines abstract methods for testing (title, classtotest, model etc). Then each subclass defines its own tests. It works so far until I have each subclass defining each its own specific tests. Now, I need to add a test that is common to all subclasses so a candidate to be placed in the super class, but my superclass only defines a framework for tests, hence this test wont have the data to execute the test and this would not execute correctly in my abstract super class. My questions: 1) Is there anyway to say not to execute the tests in the abstract class. 2) inherit tests from an abstract super class? Apparently, #shouldInheritSelectors does not work for abstract classes or I am not understanding some design rules. tx, usman

Redrawing browser with new font settings

If a font in pharo is changed most windows stay with the old settings and only new ones take the new settings. The Settings window adjusts immediately if all fonts are set to the default font. So, is there a way in a deliberate way to let a window redraw itself with adjusting to new font settings? Norbert

NeoJSON Mappings

Hi, I'm happily mapping my objects to JSON. But in order to reduce the payload I'm looking for a way to map my objects differently depending on whether it is the root object of the mapping or not. Let's say I have two classes with the following instvars between parenthesis: * ClassA(id, name) * ClassB(id, classA) I'm using #neoJsonMapping: to define the mappings and (NeoJsonWriter toString: classB) to get the JSON string. If in the Class B mappings I reference classA (by instVar or accessor) I get the whole ClassA instance serialized as JSON. Which is not what I want. I'd like to have only the id of classA. I know I can define a custom mapping using for:customDo: , but I'd like to know if there is another way to do that. And this relates to another point, that is how to define a schema for a whole hierarchy of objects. All my objects are descendant of a common superclass. There is no way I can do the following on different levels: super neoJsonMapping: mapper. mapper for: self do: [:mapping | mapping mapInstVars: #(foo) ] Because on every call it overwrites the mapping for the schema of the current call, ending up mapping only the instVar 'foo'. I can work my way around this by writing more, refactoring and so on. But I would like to know if Sven or somebody else who uses NeoJSON have some practice patterns that would like to share with the rest of us, mere mortals. Best regards!
