Troubles using Pharo 2.0 one-click package on a secured WinXP

Hi ! I'm quite new to Smalltalk and and so far, I've used Pharo on a regular XP system and everything went well. I'll add that my image occupy ~40 Mo in memory. I've recently tried to deploy my small app on the target system which is a very seccured package of WinXP. I can't help much on describing the specificities of the system as I'm just the user. But the system is cleared of unused services, there is a lot of account auditing, temporary files are explicitly written off the disk at logoff and so on. When launching the VM, I'm offered to choose an image to open and the following happen (I monitor the launching using the task manager) : Â¤ The first ~40 Mo are quickly allocated in memory Â¤ More memory is slowly allocated to the Pharo.exe process Â¤ After ~5 min, 100Mo allocated and counting, I stop the process and never get to see the Pharo GUI Is there a way for me to trace/dump what the VM is doing and maybe get help here to make my app work ? Complementary information : Â¤ I made a very crappy deployement: due to recent restrictions, I could not download a fresh and clean Pharo image. I picked the cleanest I had used, removed the various tutorial packages I had made (LOCell and stuff ;) and loaded the Monticello package of my little app. Â¤ The target system run on a VM (with something like VSphere). My understanding is that we have a cheap virtualization setup which is not adapted at all for XP.

Pharo 2.0 on Fedora 18

Hello, I'm running Pharo 2.0 on Fedora 18. I seem to have an issue with libssl.so which on my system is 1.0.1e, while libSquekSSL.so looks for version 0.9.8, as described here:Zodiac mail sending in Pharo smalltalk<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12293670/zodiac-mail-sending-in-pharo-sm…>. Does anyone know how to solve this? OSProcess execution from specific directory

Hi! On execution of (PipeableOSProcess command: 'pwd') output , it always says root directory ("/"). Is it possible to execute command from specific directory? Or the only correct solution is like this?: (PipeableOSProcess command: 'cd /Users/jura/ ; pwd') output Thanks a lot. Cheers, Jura

XMLWriter Class

I have asked about this earlier. I am using the XML library and in XML-Parser-Nodes there is a method printOn printOn: aStream (XMLWriter on: aStream) writeWith: [:writer | self writeXMLOn: writer]. Since I didn't have XMLWriter I thought it would be inside the XML-Writer package but apparently it is not. Can I know what package has this class? Or if there is anyway to solve this problem? Thanks again :)

Pharo 2.0 with Seaside + DBXTalk + GlorpDBX + Magritte 3 + TWBS is getting slower and slower

Hello, I've been loading all of those packages in order to build a full web stack development image. Everything now loads fine and kind of works but... The image is really slowing down and the size is getting very large. Here is the current one: 332580684 29 jul 10:50 Pharo-DripfeedIt-Magritte3-OpenDBX_20130729_1050.image 300+ megs... I've been doing some development in there and started looking for why this was getting so large and slow. I did a SpaceTally print analysis and imported the results in a spreadsheet. Look at the top consumers, especially the Semaphore thing. It is way beyond whatever was expected. There is something wrong there. There must be a leak of Points, MorphExtensions and I can't just figure out why there are so many Floats. I've been running test suites for some of the packages (e.g. OpenDBX and Glorp) and this may be the result. This image is kind of what one doing web dev would end up with. But then, it is very hard to get rid of that unwanted space. I am trying to build a system I can start using for business projects and feel concerned about that memory growth very seriously. Any pointers (I chased some already but here, there are way too many entries); Thx Phil

Storing test data in methods

I try to untangle my modules. I have a parser that creates a model and a tool that uses that model. For testing it is convenient to just generate the model and work with it. But this way I introduce dependencies which always pulls everything in. In order to untangle I would need a way to easily serialize the runtime model into methods or something similar. Anything that can be transported via monticello is ok. I just don't want to have dependencies to present of external files. That would just change the problem but not solving it. Any ideas? Norbert
