Hi, I'm thinking to use travisci.org to build and test some of the MIT licensed packages I've been maintaining. I'd like to get those packages development histories into git in an orderly way, so the information is there for curiosity's sake. Thanks Paul

Strange behaviour of abstract method

Hello list, in our OOP course we noticed some behaviour of an abstract method, which I cannot explain. Maybe you can help me: If I do the following SequenceableCollection new add: 123 I would expect an Error. The method add: is not implemented in SequenceableCollectionbut inherited from collection, where it's only statement is self subclassResponsibility But in reality, Pharo seems to enter an endless loop, consuming more and more memory. Can someone please explain to me, what happens here? Greetings, Michael

1. HEADLESS The SqueakVM had support for this and it was usable in the past <quote> -headless Tells Squeak to run without a main window. However, for allowing at least some access to Squeak, an icon is added to the system tray. If you double-click this icon, the Squeak window will show up again. </quote> Ask on the VM list - maybe the "headless" option could be fixed for Pharo VM to work again. 2. Shell_NotifyIcon route You use "apicall" pragram - so I expect you will use FFI. Note that I would not go that path because FFI its outdated and unsupported. Go the NativeBoost route - its much better! PNOTIFYICONDATA is a windows structure you would have to wrap. You could look at various examples in the "OS-Windows" package (loadable from config browser in Pharo 3.0) to get some examples of wrapped structures. I'm not sure if "Shell_NotifyIcon" is the right way - if I remember correctly from my C/C++ and SmalltalkMT times it is just used to work with the tray icons. These will usally have a menu (so you need callbacks) and the window is just invisible (receiving no events, ...) while the process is running. Note that you have to dive down into the darkness of Win API before you get enlightened here ;) Bye T.

Prepared statements with PostgresV2

I'm using PGConnection from the PostgresV2 package. I'd like to use prepared statements to avoid SQL Injection and continuous recompilation of the query. Ej: conn execute: 'SELECT * FROM MYTABLE WHERE COLUMN = ?' withAll: (Array with: columnValue) How can I do this? profStef missing executeMethod

I'm using: Pharo2.0 Latest update: #20625 I'm at "Reflection continued When I do the command to go to the next lesson: ProfStef default executeMethod: (ProfStef lookupSelector:#next). I get the error: ProfStef(Object) doesNotUnderstand: #executeMethod When I browse to the class in the system browser, ProfStef doesn't have an executeMethod object. I also checked Object and ProtoObject,just to be sure, but neither of them listed an executeMethod either. P.S.: I also looked at the Class Methods, though default looks like it returns an instance, so that didn't feel reasonable. Where is executeMethod supposed to reside, and was this an intentional change that just hasn't propagated yet ('m guessing the removal of the method) or is something wrong with my image? Also, if I wanted to include it into ProfStef, what would the method look like? -- Charles Hixson
