MySQL driver

Often times, I have to work with Smalltalk (pick your favorite one) and MySQL.Â I have to deal with multiple versions of MySQL and, unfortunately, incompatible code between Squeak and Pharo.Â I'm thinking of rewriting the MySQL driver to handle different MySQL versions (3.23 up to 5.7), Squeak (3.x up to 4.6) and Pharo (1.0 up to 4.0). Obviously, I'd make sure the driver would handle the different MySQL handshake protocols, password encryption methods and different storage engines (MyISAM, InnoDB and MEMORY) as well as partitions, MERGE tables and views and the oooooh-soooo-different behaviors of the ZEROFILL option and ever-changing server commands (that come and go between versions)!Â I already have a gazillion versions of MySQL servers installed and a bunch of SUnit tests (for another project of mine) to handle all the subtleties of those different versions.Â Is there any interest in such a thing before I spend (quite) some time on this? NBSQLite3 on Pharo 4?

I've been trying out some simple persistence options on Pharo 4 and I can't seem to get NBSQLite3 to work. PUnQLite NB error

Hi list, I'm trying to get Masashi's PUnQLite package to work in Pharo 4 under Ubuntu, and here's what happens when I try to run the example code: |db| db := PqDatabase open: 'comments.db'. db disableAutoCommit. db transact: [ Object subclasses do: [:cls | | key | key := cls asString. db at: key put: cls comment ] ]. db close. Glorp with PostgresV2 on Pharo 4

I'm on a roll. :-) I've written another blog post on installing Glorp with PostgresV2 on Pharo 4. To avoid this message looking like spam mail promoting my blog and devoid of content, here's the slightly edited blog post, in its original Markdown format sans JSON metadata. Outside of Smalltalk, create the database 'sodbxtest', user 'sodbxtest' with password 'sodbxtest': # su postgres -c psql postgres=# create role sodbxtest with password 'sodbxtest' login; CREATE ROLE postgres=# create database sodbxtest; CREATE DATABASE postgres=# \q # In Smalltalk, firstly, install PostgresV2: Gofer it smalltalkhubUser: 'PharoExtras' project: 'PostgresV2'; package: 'ConfigurationOfPostgresV2'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfPostgresV2) project version: '2.4') load. Open Test Runner and runs the PostgresV2 tests. On my Linux Mint machine, using a vanilla PostgreSQL 9.3 installation, 23 of 24 tests passed, and TestPGConnection>>#testNotify2 erred. Now that we know the PostgresV2 driver can talk to our database, using the Monticello browser, open the PostgresV2 repository and load the package GlorpDriverPostgreSQL. Here I had to edit NativePostgresDriver>>connectionArgsFromCurrentLogin: to comment out the second last line: connectionArgs clientEncoding: aLogin encodingStrategy asSymbol This is because GlorpDatabaseLoginResource class>defaultPostgreSQLLocalLogin does not specify encodingStrategy, meaning it is nil and will respond to #asSymbol with DNU. Next, in a playground, execute the following: GlorpDemoTablePopulatorResource invalidateSetup. GlorpDatabaseLoginResource defaultLogin: GlorpDatabaseLoginResource defaultPostgreSQLLocalLogin Open Test Runner and run the Glorp tests. Tested on Linux Mint 17.

If it's for the thousand you can use that: (myStringNumber copyWithoutAll: '.') asNumber To find this kind of methods you can use the finder (world -> Tools). Converting a string containing dots to integer

Hi all, I'm parsing some text which contains numbers like "8.324" and I would like to convert it to integer. The problem is that asNumber and asInteger don't make the trick because of the dot ("."), which is there to indicate thousands, not decimal values. Which is the proper message to send? NeoCSV and big files

Dear all, We are currently setup a small ROASSAL team to participate to #Datathon Data for Development: http://simplon.co/datathon-data-for-development-rdv-les-7-et-8-avril-a-mont… We are looking to ways to be able to load big CSV table in a Pharo image. Apparently the size of some CSV files provided will be huge (around 5 Go for one month of data). The format of the data are describe here: http://arxiv.org/abs/1407.4885 Is this possible with NeoCSV, to read only a fraction of the lines regarding some conditions ? [ANN] New service: The Pharo catalog

how to properly create icons

Hi, I've been using using ThemeIcons>>createIconMethodsFromFile:directory: method to create my own icons, however there are some reported problems https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/15277/some-icons-from-ThemeIcons-are-brok… with the code it generates. My questions are: 1) what exactly is the problem with the generated code? 2) what would then be the correct way to generate it? Glamorous (Moose) icons seem to use different format (using byte array instead of Base64), but I do not see any code that would generate those methods. Thanks, Peter
