Although it's not exactly that simple because a) you'll have to click a few extra times because the frontmost Morphs are not locked, and b) the MultipleMethodsEditor will initially fill the world because it is #spaceFill, but that could probably be addressed without too much effort. Displaying pictures using Athens

Hi everybody, Iâm currently creating a small app to display images and move them on a screen using Athens. I have all my image loaded on start and I use a loop to clear the screen and redraw all the elements (on different place and angle) every frames. The problem is that with morph, everything is fine, but as soon as I place a picture on a morph the FPS drop down. Even if the picture is a small one. Does anybody have faced the same issue ? Or is there any better way to do it ? Thanks Chris

Using VirtualGPU

Dear all, just to let you know, Cheikhou (in CC) is starting a student internship in my lab. He will work on Epidemiology Modelling with KENDRICK: http://ummisco.github.io/kendrick/ the platform that we are developing in order to analyse and visualise diseases models behaviours. We would like first to implement a GPU version of the Gillespie Stochastic Simulation Algorithm (GSSA): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gillespie_algorithm and after that also implement SPH simulations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoothed-particle_hydrodynamics We are looking at the code of OpenCL and VirtualGPU done by Ronnie. What we have understand until now : - OpenCL package : low-level stuff to be able to interface OpenCL kernels with Pharo - VirtualGPU: high-level API on top of OpenCL in order to ease the task of people who wants to use OpenCL. VirtualGPU provide high-level operations on matrix and image at the moment. @Ronie: What is not clear at the moment in our mind : when you build a VirtualGPU program with the DSL, do you have the overhead of communications every time you execute a VirtualGPU instruction or all the the instructions are sent at the same time and run on the GPU ? In our context, for building a GSSA algorithm, I guess we just have to combine same VGPU instructions (matrix computations) but for doing SPH simulations, we will have to provide our own instructions. Is there any documentation in order to add own kernel and instructions ? I know that others guys at INRIA (StÃ©phane ?) are interested by GPU. I gotta say, I was *very* happy to see the Spotter in Pharo 4. This approach, the grand unified auto-completing fuzzy find-by-anything box, is one of the greatest programming UX advances in recent memory. There's a reason there's now a version of it in every editor or IDE I know of. That's not to say there's no place for a Browser approach. But what's interesting to me is that I think the Spotter represents the 80% case. 80% of the time, we have a good idea of what we're looking for and we just want to get to it quickly. Browsers are more helpful for the 20% of the time when we're new to the code and we're exploring. We're in agreement here. It is nog about the panes per se. It's about the fact that once you reached an artefact to read or edit, there is no need for the navigation to cover a lot of space on screen. Multiplied by the number of open browsers. Until you commence your journey through your code. Then there is the problem of navigation being much more than just packages and class hierarchies. There is the question of why and how did I get here? That area is uncovered in most IDEs - not only Smalltalk. Another problem area is the longevity of a need to have some artefact open. How often do we close 10, 15, 20 inspectors at once, because we don't need them any more? When we look for the place where something started, we travel from implementor to implementor, via some senders until we finally get to where we can answer our question af hand. Sometimes we reach a dead end, need to go back a step or two and try another branch. But does it really mean we need each stop of the path as an open window? Forever? Or are there better ways to navigate? I am getting so off-topic it hurts, but these questions need an answer, and the Smalltalk community should be one that can solve them much more easily than others because our language lets us concentrate on the problem. [SURVEY] Pillar input/output files.

Hi, I'm currently working on the way we manage the input files and the output files. The way we manage the files now makes hard some improvement of Pillar. That's why with Damien we though about makes some changes. The changes are big so I wanted to talk about that with you. We propose to have always 1 file with all the work inside. That can use the inputFile tag. For example: "${inputFile:Chapter1.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter2.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter3.pillar}$ ${inputFile:Chapter4.pillar}$" And the option "separateOutputFiles" will now create 1 file each time we have a new Chapter. (!Level 1 header). That will make simpler the way to number everything and to create anchor because those 2 doesn't work well with the "separateOutputFile" option. What do you thing? I have fully green test cases in Pharo 5. Latest version of the configuration is in Glorp's repository and copied to the corresponding MetaRepos. GarageGlorp v0.1 ============= A Garage extension to connect it to Glorp.
