best practices for using external files for testing

Hi, is there a common/best practice for using external files in tests? In my specific case I am interested in git-based projects, where I have a big (~1MB) file stored in repository and I would like to use it in my tests. For GitFileTree project I could presumably use the following to access it: 'OP-XMI' asPackage mcPackage workingCopy repositoryGroup remotes first directory / 'tests' / 'my-test-file.xmi' This will retrieve the MCPackage of the Package and then retireve where it the repo is actually stored on the disk. Are there better ways to do this? Could something similar be done with IceBerg? (p.s. in theory I could compile the entire file (e.g. 1MB) to a method, but that is very ugly to me) Thanks, Peter

If I disable ssl I would make database insecure, but yeah it would not matter so much as the data is not sensitive in any way. I will try that, good idea. Exporting Packages to Cincom Smalltalk (VisualWorks)

Is there any exporter than can convert an RPackage into a VW Parcel (.pst), in XML or Chunk format? I need to migrate a few libraries of my own and couldn't find anything, so I'm asking before start writing something :) Regards! Esteban A. Maringolo

Parser for javascript mongodb (json) notation selects

Hello, friends! I'm creating MongoDBBrowser that have all CRUD operations and I need a parser that translates javascript queries to MongoDB into the queries (for making selects, inserts etc.) using MongoQuery class. For example, I have query db.SomeCollection.find( {$or: [ { name: { $regex: /test/i } }, { description: { $regex: /test/i } } ] } ) that is manually rewriting into someCollection select: { '$or' -> { { 'name' -> { '$regex' -> 'test' . '$options' -> 'i' } asDictionary } asDictionary. { 'description' -> { '$regex' -> 'test' . '$options' -> 'i' } asDictionary } asDictionary } } asDictionary But I need to have a parser that will do it automatically. Maybe there are already exist one? If not, how to write my own? Hello everyone, I'm new to pharo, and was writing a simple 2D game with Athens for rendering to practice a bit. I'm loving the environment so far, developing the game while it's running is really enjoyable :-) . However, when the game is running, the pharo image will freeze at a random time. Alt-. doesn't make my image back to normal, the only solution I found is closing my image and opening it again, until the next freeze... I don't really know what to do to investigate this bug, there is no output from pharo about this. The only thing I thought about is starting from a fresh image, importing my code and running it again to ensure it wasn't some messy state in the image I was using, and it froze even when running my code from a fresh image. What can I do to debug it? Do you need more information to give me a direction? Pharo 6 snap install

Hi Everyone, I've made a snap package for Pharo 6 which I think is far enough along for some wider testing. To get Pharo up and running on Ubuntu 16.04: # Install Pharo $ sudo snap install --edge pharo --classic # If your system isn't configured for threaded heartbeat: $ sudo pharo.config # Download the latest Pharo 6 image $ pharo.getimage # Go... $ pharo.ui Pharo.image # or: $ pharo Pharo.image eval 4+3 To get a list of available commands: $ snap info pharo If you're on Debian or Ubuntu 14.04 you'll need to install snapd, see https://snapcraft.io/docs/core/install The VM is the threaded heartbeat, dated 201704101933. The installation flags are: --edge - The edge channel is for development versions. It progresses to beta, candidate and then stable. --classic - Snap packages are normally sandboxed for security reasons. Since Pharo is a development environment in which we want to be able to run any executable, or load any library, it is installed with access to the entire system (as the running user). Why use snap packages? - They include all dependencies. In particular, for the 32 bit versions, this means that it isn't necessary to install all the 32 bit architecture and associated dependencies. - Including dependencies means that there shouldn't be any problems with incompatible library versions when upgrading. Why not use snap packages? - It's a relatively new technology, with a number of rough edges. - There may still be issues with its sandboxing that I haven't discovered yet. - Please let me know of any others to be listed here. - Because the package uses classic confinement, it isn't cross-distribution in practice (unfortunately). If you don't trust me to configure your system correctly (which requires sudo): - All the scripts that make up the sub-commands are visible, e.g. pharo.config can be viewed at /snap/pharo/current/usr/bin/CONFIG The packaging code is at: https://github.com/akgrant43/pharo-snap I'm interested to know if people would like to see this eventually become a supported package format.
