Hello! I have noticed that some of the projects in Pharo GSOC 2018 Ideas List <http://gsoc.pharo.org/> are copied from last year's list. I've asked people who have been assigned as mentors to these projects and they told me that they will not be mentoring them this year. I have created a pull request <https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo-project-proposals/pull/44> for removing two old projects that I found and discussed with mentors. But there's probably more. I think that the list of ideas has to be thoroughly reviewed and old projects must be removed from it before students start applying for them. Is there someone maintaining that list, who keeps track of all projects and knows which ones to remove? Oleks

Lengthy operations block UI

I have written some code that has a deep nested loop of calling ZnClient>>get. In the loop I also execute Transcript>>show but I can only see the transcript output after a few seconds when the loop is finished. During all that time while the loop is busy the UI is also unresponsive. Is there a way to execute code in some sort of asynchronous way?

Hello folks, I am trying since yesterday to make a game of life implemenation work. It looks all ok so far but in can`t figure out the final steps. I think I get the logic I have to use and if I imagine the code in C++ for example it would be pretty much straight forward. But with pharo I got trouble telling the machine what I want. In short I`m trying to make this method work: I wrote a test wich looks like this: I want to go trough each element of the matrix(cells), check its surounding cells if they are alive, and set its counter if there are any living neighbours. It should move like this through the whole matrix to set the neighbour counter for each element. In this method i just tried the implement the topLeft check yet but I think you get the idea. You can look at the comment in the top section it shows where the neighbour indexes are. I tried so many things by now, did research read methods of the superclasses but I can`t make it work. [ANN] Reed Solomon and Forward Error Correction

I spent time straightening out Foward Error Correction, using Reed Solomon encoding with Galois Fields. I mostly have it working for some algorithms, but still have an issue with AZTEC_DATA_10, and perhaps AZTEC_DATA_12. AZTEC_PARAM, AZTEC_DATA_6 and AZTEC_DATA_10 ar working, as well as DATA_MATRIX_FIELD_256 and QR_CODE_FIELD_256. I do not know if it is pluganizable, that would be super if code split into image and plugin, naturally. I have more testing to do to get those couple of algorithms working, then I will turn to QRCode and get that working. Thank you. Hi all, I just released PharoLauncher 1.1. There are now 64-bits versions for Mac and Linux. Jenkins build is now managed through a Jenkins file. Here is the changelog (details on https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo-launcher/issues) New features: #66 new command: import an image into the launcher default image folder #65 new command: remove a template from "Downloaded templates" #64 new command: create a local template from an image and remove the image #57 new option: run an image from a login shell to inherit from shell startup scripts to set up environment variables. #54 It is now possible to run an image anywhere on your file system if you click "launch" and no image is selected #23 Pharo Launcher now has an "about" box giving its description, version and a link to the bug tracker. Positive experience report porting from StHub to GitHub

Inria RMoD are looking for a full-time engineer for helping with developing Pharo in the context of IoT. The focus of this job is "Pharo on embedded and mobile devices for the internet of things" With Pharo, we have developed over the last two years an interactive, remote development environment. It allows embedded, headless software running on typical raspberry pi class hardware to be developed and debugged in an interactive way. It allows programmers to explore and change running headless embedded programs from their desktop development machine. The next step will be to extend this infrastructure to cover the use case of industrial use: Deployment. We want to build a middle-ware to manage, authenticate and script deployed Pharo embedded installations. The engineer will help to develop the Pharo IoT infrastructure, especially with a focus on industrial use: â¢ Improve Pharo for a platform with an industrial focus. â¢ Work on a middleware to manage deployed Pharo instances. â¢ Realize two small demos: First, as an industrial IoT example, a demo deployed on 20+ devices. Demo 2: Pharo deployed on multiple mobile autonomous robots. â¢ Help with creating a website for PharoIOT. We are looking for a candidate with some prior experience with Pharo.
