Playground - retrieving pages from play-cache

I have a mystery when using the 'Play Pages' button on the top right of the playground. One particular file, which has been through several versions, never appears in the drop-down list on clicking this button. It is in the play-cache, and I access it by opening the file from the file explorer with WordPad, then copying and pasting into the playground. More mysteriously, having got at in this way, as a test I closed the playground containing it, then clicked the 'Play Pages' button in a new empty playground; the mystery file was there at the top of the list. Close down Pharo and restart, click 'Play Pages' in a new playground, the file is missing again. Is there anything I should be doing to ensure it is accessible? I have tried closing the playground before I shut down Pharo, and alternatively leaving it open and letting the Pharo shut-down close it. Does 'Play Pages' work by examining the contents of the 'play-cache' folder, or does it maintain its own list of files? I am using 32-bit Moose Suite 6.1 (Pharo 6.0 Latest update: #60541) on Windows 10. Many thanks for any help Peter Kenny

I am going to the portland meetup this october and I noticed that one of the items listed is "Smalltalk on iOS and Android" which intrigues me. Is some Guilfoyle-type here writing a VM for these platforms? I was joking with a friend that we should write a vm for ios using the "smalltalk blue book" and it would be fun to learn how vm's work by trying to write sometihng for ios. Is someone already working on this? - Steve

Can one use freetype fonts with Roassal?

I'm interested in using Pharo to do a math presentation, by which I mean I'd like to show some algebra in process. I'm using a Mac (macOS Mojave), and Pharo 7. I've settled upon Roassal2 as a good package to use for this, as I'd like to arrange characters, and possibly do a little animation, and maybe a little bit of effects with alpha settings. However, I'd like to show the alphabetic characters in the traditional way for math (italicized), and I'd like to be able to control the font size. Looking at the Roassal examples, I can see how to control the font size, but not the font face. I've been exploring what package Roassal uses for displaying fonts. It appears to be FreeType. I have FreeType installed on macOS from Homebrew, and I've copied a couple fonts into a "fonts" folder under my home directory (as FreeType in Pharo seems to demand)--Times New Roman Italic, and Arial Italic--but if I try to change the font face to any one of these, the font face doesn't change, but I lose font sizing. Every character appears the same size, even though the code is still trying to set the font height. I'll use the Roassal exampleFontSize example to illustrate. FFIExternalType hooks; naming convention

HI, I have a couple of questions regarding FFI: - If you want to create a new FFIExternalType subclass, which are the necessary hooks that should be implemented - like #externalType, #externalTypeSize â¦ on the class side and #basicHandle:at:, #basicHandle:at:put:, #stackValueParameterClass, etc. on the instance side? - Is there anything else that should be done besides hooks - for instance another "entries" into FFIConstants class>>#initializeTypeConstants or even ExternalType>>#initializeAtomicTypes ? - About naming standards: the ExternalData class has some methods that "grab" strings from the heap, like ExternalData>>#fromCString and ExternalData>>#readStringUTF8 - these two methods do the heavy work, however the method ExternalData>>#readString more or less just refers to ExternalData>>#fromCString. New non-critical project - which Pharo to use?

I donât think this conversation can be closed while things are in the present unclear situation. The github entry at https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/blob/Pharo8.0/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md is still there, and has been there since last May. The github discussion on https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/pull/4637 was abruptly closed by Stephane Ducasse, after some intemperate comments about Serge Stinckwich. This is therefore the only place questions can be asked. We now know that Serge posted the Code without prior discussion with the board. Did he have authority to do this on behalf of the Pharo community? Does the fact that he did so mean it is officially adopted by the community â not just for this mailing list, but for all Pharo activities? If Serge did not have authority, shouldnât it just be removed, at least until the board have discussed it? The PR mentioned above was a proposal by James Foster that, if we need a code of conduct, it should be the ACM code. The PR has now been closed. Does that mean that Jamesâs proposal has been rejected? If so, why? If the conversation is closed now, that means that we are tacitly accepting that the code is there and in force, and also tacitly accepting how it got there. What is necessary is for the board collectively, or someone representing the board, to tell us what the situation is and what is going to happen next â preferably with justifications. The post was deleted not because of the CoC, but because of an unrespectful treatment of one of the members of the community, as the conversation here shows. And in fact what this probe that we care as a community for the well being of the community and its members, specially when complex matters are addressed, and not only for commits or some future possible porting and that such promises or technical prowess don't entitled anyone to insult others.
