[ANN] XMLParserHTML moved to GitHub

Hi, the STHub -> PharoExtras project "XMLParserHTML" was now moved from http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~PharoExtras/XMLParserHTML to https://github.com/pharo-contributions/XML-XMLParserHTML including the FULL HISTORY The old STHub repo was marked as obsolete - but is linking to the new one. I've also setup an CI job: https://travis-ci.org/pharo-contributions/XML-XMLParserHTML which is green for Pharo 7. Some cleanups, class comments and docu was applied as you can see from commit history. The new version is tagged in git as version 1.6.0 (with a moveable tag 1.6.x in case further hotfixes are required). You can load using Metacello new baseline: 'XMLParserHTML'; repository: 'github://pharo-contributions/XML-XMLParserHTML/src'; load. or from catalog in Pharo 7 or 8. In an other thread Steve Davies mentions that Pharo can be a bit overwhelming. Indeed I have had the same feeling. I was struggling for weeks (not every day, but still) to find out how to change the system to be able to give background color to text. As part of my attempt at understanding the code, I ended up looking at Rubric and its Text morphs. I have been working at building a little tool which can help me get an overview of the objects and how the are connected. Not a static code analysis, but a snapshot view. What I did was I took a root object, and made the transitive object closure from that object, with the following restrictions: - Only Rubric, Morphic and Collections are examined, though Strings are excluded - Only instance variables which has a selector of the same name are included - The same object only appear once in the diagram, but more than one instance of a class can be present (at different places). I build on a tool named PlantUML. hi, I'm just starting out w/ pharo and have a question re your code; specifically, in reject: [ :word | (word sameAs: aWord) or: [ word asLowercase asBag ~= charBag ] ] is that inner block needed? would it be less smalltalk-esque to write, say: reject: [ :w | (w = aWord) or: (w asLowercase asBag ~= charBag) ] thx! separately recently I watched an alan kay interview in which he says an oo program is typically much smaller than its imperative counterpart and i wondered why. One of the lessons of 'functional' languages, promptly adopted by Smalltalk, is to encapsulate control structures into reusable methods, such as #inject:into:, more commonly known as `foldl` in functional languages. It's then none of my business whether such a method works by recursion, iteration, or gangs of otherwise seasonally unemployed Christmas elves. In my own Smalltalk library, (GeometricSeries new: 64 from: 1 byFactor: 2) sum only takes 15 microseconds. I do note that you are calling validateInput repeatedly. Why? hi, I'm starting out w/ pharo (as my first smalltalk-ish language). am on Windows 7 professional; downloaded 64-bit, pharo 8 64-bit development; then downgraded to pharo 7, 32-bit stable. I went through Prof Stef, and find 1 place of unexpected behavior: Prof Stef/Conditionals: "no surprises, prints 100" 1 < 2 ifTrue: [100] ifFalse: [42]. "i added a, as below, and get an error -- i would've expected a to refer to the block, and to be evaluable later, similar to the just prior example in ProfStef/Block assignation" |a| a := 1 < 2 ifTrue: [:x|x+1] ifFalse: [42]. a value: 20. Hi Roelof, There is a seaside specific mailing list you could join here: http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/seaside I have Seaside loaded in an image and can't find the ListComponent class. IS that the correct name for the class you're using? If you post your question along with the code you are trying to the Seaside list someone will probably be able to help you. What you're describing sounds straightforward to implement.
