Zeroconf downloading latest rather than stable

Hi there. I have done a clean install of Pharo 9.0 using the zeroconf on get.pharo.org. I am using curl https://get.pharo.org | bash When running the environment, I get a message at startup telling me that my VM is too old and that I should install a newer one - I am running it on an M1 MacMini. However, after discussions on Discord, it seems that the above script installs the latest âstableâ, not the latest VM. How do I get out of this little wrinkle? David

Hello community Just a little mail from holidays to let you know that from September on we will try a new organisation. Pharo 9 (with Covid and amount of work) was stressful for us. Seriously we deliver more than expected so we did several meta meetings (and we will continue) to understand how we can work with less stress. In particular we want to be able to give better feedback to the community while being able to deliver the large items we have on our plate. In a nutshell every month we will have - a full working day around - design ideas such as https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/wiki/01-PhIP-Simplify-Pragma-Storage - new tools such as MethodProxies to look at our lovely system in different ways https://github.com/pharo-contributions/MethodProxies - code review - a full internal bug/issue internal sprint we want to be able to concentrate on issues that require concentration and we want to make sure that we can provide feedback and integrate PRs that need brain. - our monthly open sprint (we hope that Covid 4th wave will not break our fun once again). How many active Smalltalkers worldwide?

Iâm guessing between 10 and 20 thousand. Iâm guessing a few thousand for each of GemStone/S, Pharo, Squeak, VAST, and VisualWorks. Iâm guessing a few hundred for each of Amber, Cuis, Dolphin, and GNU.

ZnServer on a cheap server: your experiences

Anyone here run a web app using plain ZnServer (or subclasses) on a cheap VPS (i.e., $10/month DO droplet or equivalent). What are your experiences?, suggestions. I am planning a web app with just plain ZnServer, SQLite3, ATS or equivalent. Thanks, Vince

Error in Pharo 9's Spec UI Framework Demo

In the Spec2 examples included with Pharo9, in the example for SpListPresenter, when I try to input text in the list filter, I get an error: the debug window says: "Instance of OrderedCollection did not understand #hasElementAt:". The example works correctly in Pharo8. Is there a workaround to make the example work?

Iâm looking for a list of individuals who have contributed greatly to the advancement of Smalltalk, post Xerox PARC period (1972-1980). By advancement, I donât only mean on a technical basis but on an educational or public awareness basis (this could include books, podcasts, talk circuit, video instruction, etc.). Any basis that has made Smalltalk a success in the marketplace (including commercialization). I posted this question on LinkedIn and got one useful response: the late James Robertson. My personal nomination is Kent Beck. Iâm not that familiar with the deep history of Smalltalk, so Iâm looking for more nominations. Thanks.
