Hi: I have just open source StCAD (MIT license) which has the code for freeCAD. http://askoh.com/stcad Although written in VisualWorks Smalltalk, I hope Pharo users will port it in part or whole. All the best, Aik-Siong Koh What is 'StCAD'? 'StCAD' is a basic 3D CAD framework in Smalltalk (VisualWorks 8.x). It extends the GF/ST 2D drawing framework into 3D. It also include 'StCAD-Geo' which is the 3D geometric domain, 'StCAD-Math' which provides the mathematical support for 3D CAD and motion simulation computations, and 'StCAD-Doc' which is a simple word processor. 'StCAD-Math' is also suitable for engineering, scientific and business computing. The parcels are open source using MIT License. Users can use these parcels with other private software to create 3D applications like motion simulation, finite element analysis, CAD, scientific visualization, etc. 'StCAD' allows users to create and manipulate assemblies, which are collections of 3D parts. The parts are 3D solids, which can be connected by joints, constraints, contacts, actuators, springs, dampers or forces. The parts and connections define the structure or mechanism that the assembly is meant to represent. Animation is possible, if the user can provide time series of position and orientation data for the parts. Users can also obtain output data in the form of plots and tables. XY plots can be zoomed and set to equal scales. Data series available include linear and angular displacements, velocities, accelerations and other user generated data. 'StCAD' has been used to create a freeware called 'freeCAD' which is a 3D CAD with Motion Simulation. Pharo7, consistent image freeze/deadlock on snapshotAndQuit

Hi, I ran into a freeze issue when trying to save and/or quit an image after loading Seaside3 and Zinc (not an infrequent combination :) The cause seems to be that terminating processes in a `shutDown` handler (called on image shutdown / snapshot) leads to a deadlock (somewhere). Both Comet and Zinc will send #terminate to a process when an image is quit or saved. If I disable one of those, the deadlock does not occur. I managed to reconstruct the issue with a simple example, attached. The attached Freeze class creates two processes (that loop with a Delay>>wait inside) in the `startUp` method (on image start). These processes are terminated by the shutdown method (called on image quit/save). However, when you try to quit and/or save the image, you will experience an image freeze. Iâm not familiar with the process scheduler, or anything else in this contextâ¦ so help would be appreciated while I try to dive further into it :) To reproduce: just file in the attached file in a Pharo7 image and try to quit. For reference, System Reporter output for my configuration. Any ideas? Iceberg - better control of project name?

Hi - Iâve just noticed a small issue with the latest iceberg - or at least its confusing. The Exercism project - is in a repo specified by them - its exercism/pharo.git And when I check it out using the latest iceberg using the GitHub option - I specify an Owner of âexercismâ and a project name âpharoâ to get it to properly check out. However in the iceberg window this then appears as a project called âpharoâ which is very misleading when there is the master âPharoâ project for all of pharo. (See photo) There doesnât seem to be a way to override the display of this name to make it âexercism/pharoâ - and Iâm wondering if Iceberg should handle this a bit better - either by showing {owner}/{project} or letting you give a better name in the definition to override what is shown? Image does not start anymore

Hi, I have a Pharo 7 image which I normally start from Pharo Launcher on Windows. I think I saved it without problems. However, suddenly it stopped opening. As it contains data and some unsaved code I would hate to loose, I'd appreciate any help on how to debug a situation like this. I attached the debug log. Cheers, Bernhard

[ANN] Success story Mobility Map

As presented on ESUG here is the brief description of one of our current projects. Mobility Map ââââââ Mobility Map is a broker for mobility services. It offers multi-modal routing search enabling users to find the best travel options between locations. Travel options include car sharing, bikes, trains, busses etc. Rented cars can be offered for ride sharing on booking time letting other people find it to participate in the ride. Single travel options are combined in travel plans that can be booked and managed in a very easy way. For this project main requirements were scalability to serve a large user base and flexibility to add more additional providers to the broker. The application has been realized using web technologies for the frontend and pharo for the backend. Using a microservice architecture combined with a broker it is easy to extend the platform with additional brokers. Deployment is done using docker swarm for distributing dozens of pharo images among multiple server machines connected by a message queue for the communication. Pharo supported that scenario very well enabling us the meet the requirements with less effort. Pharo turned out to be a perfect fit to develop the application in a agile way. Small development cycles with continuous integration and continuous delivery enables fast turnarounds for the customers to validate progress. For DSL geometric sketch, I use the DrGeoCanvas class. When instantiated with the #minimal message, it holds a view with only the sketch and no widget. Therefore It is an interactive geometric sketch in a Morph, it can be obtained with the #view message. Inspected methods with the <gtView> pragma indicate a BLelement is expected as a view. Therefore, how can I embed DrGeoCanvas interactive moprh in Documenter? Separate namespaces, too. It would have built-in support for multi-core concurrency. I would call it *Maxwell* (after James Clerk Maxwell). Since Smalltalk already has lambdas, Maxwell could do functional programming, too. Since Smalltalk is fully reflective, Maxwell could do metaprogramming, too, just like Lisp. Since Smalltalk has built-in support for *live coding*, Maxwell could also eliminate the traditional edit-compile-test-debug cycle that hampers most developers. *Productivity could easily double!* Maxwell would also have the option to compile to native code, C, Java, and JavaScript, so it can: 1. execute very quickly on bare metal 2. interoperate with C 3. utilize the JVM ecosystem 4. run in the web browser Maxwell would retain Smalltalkâs simplicity (for the most part) making it great for educational purposes. Finally, Maxwell would be a tightly controlled standard, thereby avoiding fragmentation. *There can be only one Maxwell.* And I would be the BDFL.

Likely. As GIT is integrated to Pharo, when installing the package I was expecting the local repo to be synchronized from remote master. I will delete local repos and try it again, it will take time.
