Configuring iceberg on Windows
by Andrei Stebakov Sept. 7, 2018

Sept. 7, 2018

I followed the tutorial and provided IceCredentialProvider with ssh settings, also put the same settings in Settings-Tools-Software Configuration Management. It seems not to have any effect since when I try to create a repo using SSH it gives the error "Failed to connect to github.com". I need to get past that error since I get it even when I install Moose via Metacello. Do I need to add ssh-agent as well? If yes, why do we need to provide public/private key paths with IceCredentialProvider?

adding instance variables (data) to the Object class
by Petr Fischer Sept. 6, 2018

Sept. 6, 2018

Hello! Weird question: why I can't add instance variables to the Object class (for example "oid" or something else)? Is it due to some internal (and different) VM "class layouts"? Or - can I inject my own information to all existing objects (any class)? Thanks! pf

Secure socket timeouts on Windows
by Andrei Stebakov Sept. 5, 2018

Sept. 5, 2018

This issue has been bugging me for a while now, but I hesitated to post it since I can't explain what's going on. Every time I do any operation in Pharo related to secure socket connection I have strange socket timeout even though I can connect to the URL using web browser. This time I was trying to install latest pharo 7.0 via pharo installer and I got ZdcSecureSocketStream waitForDataFor: hang over trying to download https://files.pharo.org/get-files/70/pharo-win-stable.zip I can paste that link in Chrome and it can download it for me no problem also I can download it using curl. This issue only happens to me at work, when I do the same from home I don't see this issue. Anyway, I am at a loss here and wonder how can I debug and fix this issue. Wondering if something like that happened for you guys.

Smalltalk Security Landscape - survey for ESUG 2018
by Jerry Kott Sept. 4, 2018

Sept. 4, 2018

Dear Smalltalkers and friends, I am planning to have a presentation titled âSmalltalk Security Landscapeâ at this yearâs ESUG conference. In my presentation I hope to increase cybersecurity awareness within the Smalltalk community and help shape the evolution of the language and its ecosystem. I have put together a survey to help me research the topic. I ask for your kind help to get a picture of where Smalltalk stands in the area of cybersecurity. The survey is completely anonymous, and should take less than 15 minutes to complete. I appreciate your time and participation. If you are in a management role, I would like your help by forwarding this to your team members to help reach the broad Smalltalk community. Here is a link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/esug2018 <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/esug2018> Thank you for your help, and hope to see you in Cagliari! MetaLink after on a message with argument
by Peter Uhnak Sept. 4, 2018

Sept. 4, 2018

Hi, I'm trying to install an #after metalink to a MessageNode that has an argument, however it fails because the bytecode is missing the argument (I think). Note that #before control worked fine, so I am not sure whether this is a bug, not yet supported, or am I doing something wrong. code (tested in P6.1): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Something compile: 'add: aNumber ^ 1 + aNumber'. after := MetaLink new metaObject: [ self logCr: 'after' ]; selector: #value; control: #after. " after uninstall. " ast := (Something>>#add:) ast. node := ast sendNodes first. node link: after. Something new add: 3. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ error: [image: image.png] Thanks! Peter
