Tabular ODS import

Hi All, I've been working on the ODS importer for the Tabular package (http://ss3.gemtalksystems.com/ss/Tabular.html) and wanted to offer the opportunity for feedback before updating the code as it is likely to affect existing users. While the class structure of Tabular is designed to support multiple formats in theory, in practice the existing implementation is quite XLSX specific. I think that trying to extend the core Tabular classes to be a superset of all the functionality from the various formats (XLSX, ODS, etc.) will not be practical - I don't have a good enough understanding of all the formats to implement it in the first place, and certainly not to resolve conflicting attributes in any sensible way. The approach I've taken is to make the existing classes, which were intended to be format independent, abstract and create format specific subclasses, i.e. the existing TabularCell and TabularStyle become: TabularCell TabularXLSXCell TabularODSCell TabularStyle TabularXLSXStyle TabularODSStyle The modified code runs the existing test suite successfully without any modifications. I welcome any comments, suggestions, etc. Also, Tabular currently loads PharoExtras/XMLWriter and PharoExtras/XMLParser as dependencies. I've been using XMLSupport, which I thought I remembered reading was a replacement for XMLWriter and XMLParser, but now I can't find the reference. Is one generally preferred over the other? About Traits

Hello, I have a question about Trait. Is it ok, in the design point of view, to use them to force an object to implement an interface? Like that it would be possible to check (via an #assert: for example) if a class provides the interface required. I read some things I found on the net about Traits and already used TComparable but I never created one myself and I am not sure to understand this concept entirely. Thanks in advance! Julien

ensureCreateFile

Hi, I would like to have your opinion about what you want ensureCreateFile to do. According to me ensureCreateFile should do the same thing as ensureCreateDirectory + create the file in the last directory given but in its implementation if the parents of this file doesn't exist we get an Exception. Is it wanted or an error? Valentin.

Trapping the Pharo window close event

How do you get rid of that "Quit Pharo without saving message" that comes up when you try to close the Pharo window? remove unused variables

The editor used to inform when there was an unused local variable and offered to remove it. Is it possible to get this behavior back, or is it a feature regression with the "new" (this changed some time ago) editor? Thanks, Peter

meaning of #workingDirectory in in-memory file system

fs := FileSystem memory. fs workingDirectory "memory:///". What is the conceptual meaning of #workingDirectory here? Shouldn't it just throw an error for memory FileStore as it makes no sense? I.e. I didn't launch any image from memory. Peter

Hello World (found a RoelTyper Bug)

Hi, Pharo Users! I'm starting to work on types in Pharo. To be more precise, I'd like to improve the RoelTyper (a package which "guesses" variable types in code). What suggestions do you have? I have some ideas and I'm currently working to find more, but it's always interesting to hear what the community has to say :) Oh, and by the way, I've found a bug in RoelTyper. I have a fix, but it seems that RoelTyper is a Moose thing, since it's not included in the vanilla Pharo image. Do you know where I could submit the fix? Cheers, Diego.

problem with Cairo library

Hi All, I have implement a method that is indicating where external library inthis case libpcap. When i try to inspect the method and having and error : cannot locate cairo library please check if it is install on your system. After installing it on my ubuntu 14.04, i still have thesame error. What can be the cause of this error and how can i solve it?
