I have been away from smalltalk coding for a while. On returning to the fold, I often see the use of a right arrow in code. Is this something new? Today in a Teapot app example, I saw, Teapot on GET: '/welcome' -> 'Hello World!'; start. What is the arrow for?

UDBCSQLite and the location of the sqlite3 binary

Hi, From time to time, we use UDBCSQLite for our workshops and interactive documentation examples and is a pretty good project for bridging the Smalltalk world and the relational database world. A common glitch is locating the binary of sqlite3 for 32 bits and putting it in a place that is available for the VM. I just make this small hack: === UDBCSQLite3Library>>#library Smalltalk os isMacOS ifTrue: [ ^ #sqlite3 ]. Smalltalk os isUnix ifTrue: [ ^ '/usr/lib32/libsqlite3.so']. ^'sqlite3' === and now is working pretty well on my machine. Of course, this only works on Arch 64 bits and its derivates and could change in other Gnu/Linux variants. So, I'm wondering for a better way to make the path to the sqlite binary not hard coded into UDBCSQLite3 and creating some #library: setter that lets the user to setup the sqlite3 location if the file on UDBCSQLite3Library>>#library is non-existent or wrong. I'm sending this to the list, because AFAIK there is no ticketing on STHub to discuss code issues. Cheers, Offray

Pharo 5 and retina displays in 2016?

Hi Guys - its been a while since Iâve had a chance to get back into some coding in Smalltalk, and took the plunge again with a new laptop and Pharo 5, however the screen is really blurry? Doing a google search, I can see this same question raised back in 2012, but has there been no progress in this intervening years or has a workaround not been documented for google to find? Or has everyone just got used to it, and I need to hand in there... I have tried using a different font - but not sure what constitutes a true-type font (are these the same as free-type mentioned in the Settings Browser?). Has anyone found a font that makes everything look crisp (I tried Helvetica but its only marginally better). Or is this still the same issue thatâs been hanging around for a long time as its hard to easily fix? Tim

Flashing short duration images in a window

I want to write code to flash a color image of a person in a window for a short period of time. The duration of the flash is important, not the frequency of the flashes, which will be low and probably controlled by pressing a key. Ideally, the duration should be an integral number of frames, starting from 1 and increasing to a much larger number. With a 60 Hz monitor, one frame would be 0.0167 seconds. The images would be low to moderate resolution, e.g. 70K to 1 Mb Can this be done entirely in Pharo or would it be necessary to use the Unified FFI with operating system commands? If it can be done in Pharo, what are the classes needed to display an image filed in from the hard drive? I am using a 27 inch iMAC (10.11.6) with 4GHz, 8 GB ram, and AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB video card. Pharos is new to me but I wrote Smalltalk code with VisualWorks a few years back. Any Pharo 5 in the industrial setup?

Dear all, my name is Yuriy Tymchuk, I am a researcher from Bern University and the author of QualityAssistant and other quality-related tweaks and experiments in Pharo. I am interested to know is anybody uses Pharo 5 in industry as I've spent plenty of time to develop QualityAssistant and I am interested to know if it is useful in the industrial setup. So if you know any project please let me know. If you are an industrial developer working on Pharo 5 Iâm interested in a short chat. ZnClient GET, but just the content of the <head> tag?

This is a micro optimization if there ever was one but I wondered if it was possible to stop downloading and get the entity once the </head> tag has been received. Right now I download the whole page, parse it with Soup, then extract the tags I want from the head. Which works fine. e.g. head:=((Soup fromString: (ZnEasy get: 'http://pharo.org') entity) findChildTag: 'html') findChildTag: 'head'.

Execute a script from command line save image and exit

How to execute a script from command line , then save the image and exit ? I use the st command but it offers either --save which saves but keeps image opened or --exit the exits the image without saving ./pharo Ephestos.image st --save test.st
