Hi all, the code below gives me the number representing the last keystroke. It is a bit of a hack, so I was wondering if there is a cleaner way to do this when using a RubScrolledTextMorph (I tried subscribing to different announcements to no avail). Object-oriented state-frozen logging

Hi, this may be a bit tall order and I am not sure if possible, however I would like to know the state of objects at certain points. Currently what I would do is something like self log: 'anObject someProperty:'; logCr: anObject someProperty. however this is not very practical. So I would like something like self fronzenLog: anObject and then I could inspect the logger and see the state of the whole objects. Using debugger and stepping through it is not really practical because I need to observe several possible objects that are in this function at very different times. Is this possible? Is there a better/somewhat better way to do something like this? Any pointers appreciated. Peter

Canadian Smalltalk Competition

Richard Eng visited the Pharo community a while ago being very enthusiastic about his Smalltalk Renaissance project. His strategy didn't end up fitting the community, but I find his kickstarter to run a Smalltalk coding competition for secondary students interesting. Apart from straight altruism to support it, providing a wide exposure of students to the concept of Smalltalk just before they enter university should generate some spillover to our communities. A rising tide lifts all ships. And community networking is a funny thing, some of those students will have parents in strategic positions who would never otherwise be exposed to Smalltalk. Association postcopy (Pharo 3)

Hi, the Dictionary>>postCopy comment reads: "Must copy the associations, or later store will affect both the original and the copy However Association(Object)>>copy will neither copy 'key' (thats what I expect) nor 'value' (that makes the copy fail). I checked an older version of Squeak and VisualWorks 7 and found that also there Association misses a postCopy. My workaround for a Dictionary copy reads "... associationsDo: [ :a | a value: a value copy ] ". Does anybody know why Association does not contain this code in a postCopy method ? MySQL driver

Often times, I have to work with Smalltalk (pick your favorite one) and MySQL.Â I have to deal with multiple versions of MySQL and, unfortunately, incompatible code between Squeak and Pharo.Â I'm thinking of rewriting the MySQL driver to handle different MySQL versions (3.23 up to 5.7), Squeak (3.x up to 4.6) and Pharo (1.0 up to 4.0). Obviously, I'd make sure the driver would handle the different MySQL handshake protocols, password encryption methods and different storage engines (MyISAM, InnoDB and MEMORY) as well as partitions, MERGE tables and views and the oooooh-soooo-different behaviors of the ZEROFILL option and ever-changing server commands (that come and go between versions)!Â I already have a gazillion versions of MySQL servers installed and a bunch of SUnit tests (for another project of mine) to handle all the subtleties of those different versions.Â Is there any interest in such a thing before I spend (quite) some time on this? NBSQLite3 on Pharo 4?

I've been trying out some simple persistence options on Pharo 4 and I can't seem to get NBSQLite3 to work. PUnQLite NB error

Hi list, I'm trying to get Masashi's PUnQLite package to work in Pharo 4 under Ubuntu, and here's what happens when I try to run the example code: |db| db := PqDatabase open: 'comments.db'. db disableAutoCommit. db transact: [ Object subclasses do: [:cls | | key | key := cls asString. db at: key put: cls comment ] ]. db close.
