Halos in pharo 3
by Andy Burnett Oct. 4, 2013

Oct. 4, 2013

I have two related questions: 1. how does one bring up halos in the 3.0 image. I tried Cmd + Shift + two fingers (on my track pad), but nothing happens. 2. How does one get rid of the Pomodoro timers? I assumed I could use Halos - see question 1 - but maybe there is a better way? Cheers Andy

Re: [Pharo-users] Halos in pharo 3

Sean said <<Traditionally in Squeak, you could cycle through Morphs in either direction - from the topmost (e.g. a TextMorph in the Window) which is Alt-Shift-click on Mac, or bottom most parent (e.g. from the Window) which on Mac is Alt-click. Some people found the non-Shift version troublesome because they accidentally brought up halos. So in Pharo by default, you can Alt-click. You can also re-enable the Alt-Shift-click direction via the settings browser: (World Menu->System->Settings). Text search on halos and then enable "Cycle both directions">> Thanks, that worked perfectly. Cheers Andy

[ANN] Mustache templates
by Norbert Hartl Oct. 4, 2013

Oct. 4, 2013

I like to announce my smalltalk port of mustache templates. Mustache is a popular templating engine that is supported in many programming languages. I know at least that is quite common to be used in javascript but see at the languages it supported yourself [1]. A basic usage is something like (just paste it to workspace after loading Mustache): --- templateString := 'Hello {{name}}, this is {{templatingEngine}} for {{recipient}}. {{# cheerUp }} Have fun! {{/ cheerUp }}'. context := { 'name' -> 'pharo community'. 'templatingEngine' -> 'mustache'. 'recipient' -> 'you'. 'cheerUp' -> true } asDictionary. templateString asMustacheTemplate value: context --- Context objects can be Dictionaries or regular objects. It is also easy to feed via json e.g. using NeoJSON templateString asMustacheTemplate value: (NeoJSONReader fromString: â¦) I wrote a blog article about it and the usage in smaltlalk on my blog [2]. The code I have just released on smalltalkhub [3]. Documentation about the syntax to use is available under [4]. To load it do Gofer it smalltalkhubUser: 'NorbertHartl' project: 'Mustache'; configurationOf: 'Mustache'; loadStable. The code is not very old so there might be bugs (this is supposed to be the standard disclaimer). If you find something not working as expected just drop me a note. The engine produces at the moment more whitespaces than you can see in the examples. I need to figure out the rule first and will release a new version. Nevertheless I consider it useful by now. But you decide and hopefully give me feedback. Thanks for Athens and Esse and a question about Freetype support for Athens in Pharo 3.0 image on Arch Gnu/Linux 64 bits
by Offray Vladimir Luna Cárdenas Oct. 2, 2013

Oct. 2, 2013

Hi, Yesterday I was again take a look back into pharo. I really like zoomable interfaces and despite that most of my hobby programming today is done on python/web2py I would like to keep pharo on the radar and not loosing touch with the language and community. So I would like to make some minor experiments about prezi like presentations on using Esse[1][2] and Athens. I just want to thank you about that projects and let you know that support for Athens was really smooth on Pharo 3.0 [1] http://gsoc2012.esug.org/showcase [2] https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/792245/Esse%20project.mp4 There is a minor glitch about freetype fonts support that I image is related with the path of the for 64 bit systems as a 32 bit library. The same happen some time ago with cairo, so, if someone knows where to find to declare the path for that fonts I would really appreciate that. Cheers, Offray

Muiltple images / FFI
by recursive68＠gmail.com Oct. 1, 2013

Oct. 1, 2013

Hi, I have an app (seaside) that is configured with multiple pharo (1.3) images behind an apache proxy, using a FFI wrapper to a OCI native library to connect to Oracle. It works fine with one image but with multiple images it crashes with a seg fault/memory error when under user load. The error appears to happen when the wrapper code closes an OCI statement/connection. It appears with multiple images that they are allocating/de-allocating memory via the wrapper/OCI and over-writing each over. Is that possible ? Thanks

You probably want to do something similar to what we have done in Deltawerken-Framework. (on ss3) Stephan

Morphic text filed plus autocompetion
by Norbert Hartl Oct. 1, 2013

Oct. 1, 2013

I like to make myself a little command shell inside the image. For this I would need a textfield that can popup somewhere on the screen and that has enough hooks for text entry events and hooks/support for auto-completion. What would be the best things to read/the best code to look at in order to learn how I can accomplish that. thanks, Norbert
