Hi, I see that there is a bit of an interest in the GTInspector, so here are some extra info about it. Beyond the things you can do out-of-the-box with it, the true power of the inspector comes from its extensibility. The idea is to offer each object an easy way to exhibit its own characteristics. This changes the way you can think of interacting with objects. Some more details here: http://www.humane-assessment.com/blog/equal-browsing-opportunity-for-every-… A new feature is the ability to edit code directly in the methods presentation. Combined with the possibility of executing a method in place and previewing the result, this opens the door for a prototype-like programming style. The GTInspector is part of the Glamorous Toolkit. It is still in its infancy, but I think it shows that there is a great deal of possibilities to improve the IDE and to depart from the what we might think is a given. I am still looking for people interested in joining this effort (remember the idea of the ide taskforce). It would be great to get more people interested in improving this part of Pharo. Pharo 1.4 "Summer" released!

We are proud to announce the summer release of Pharo 1.4! You can find information about Pharo at: http://www.pharo-project.org About this release. We integrated 30 fixes (the rounded number is completely casual) and integrated some tools that users feedback showed as necessary, specially the inclusion of OmniBrowser as part of the core for 1.4. As a result of all this changes and fixes, the stability of this version is a lot better and we are really happy with it. Structural changes to the image: - Backport configurations browser from 2.0. This will easy the loading of packages for everybody, specially newcomers. - Integrated ProfStef. Again, useful for newcomers. - Integrated Spotlight. Folks This little app is still in MIT Curl in alpha, but I will move to Android in at least two or three forms - when Pharo is ready - when Curl CAEDE is ready ( Japanese for "maple" Kaede ) at curl.com - if Red replaces Rebol3 MIT Curl is now owned by Tokyo's SCSK Corp but some pieces are open-source libraries on sourceforge.net Curl is the markup for which I have advocated on the Seaside beach on occasion ( there is still some SGML-bias is a couple of Seaside 3 classes ;-) For a snapshot see http://passphrases.aule-browser.com (plain JPG in plain-old HTML page ) The app is a mnemonics utility for recalling a passphrase which you may have forgotten. Passphrases should be randomly generated as more secure alternatives to passwords. The app uses 4-part passphrases of 4 or 5-letter words. User must recall the punctuation separating the words. At the moment the words are all upper-case. Current word lists are English, but Curl is UNICODE, so many to follow. First ALPHA feedback requested How Annoying is the app already ? Paragraph, TextComposer, MultiCompositionScanner ... is there a backgrounder somewhere?

I have been spending a while on how text gets composited (I want a TextMorph and associated editor that works my way and has nothing to do with SmalltalkEditor). The point is to display/edit reasonably simple math equations. Of course, I am running into text composition at one point. I could display using various morphs instead but I want to do it this way since it also helps me with another project where text is the focus (and links etc). I have looked around quite a bit. Is there a backgrounder on those matters or am I to use the debugger for ages trying to grok it? TIA Phil

By accident I visited the following website today http://igoro.com/archive/how-to-write-a-self-printing-program/ It is about writing a self-printing program, also known as a quine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quine_(computing) This has probably been done before, but I had to try to do it in Pharo Smalltalk. Weird behavior with my 1.4 image - windows not responding anymore

I've been experiencing a weird behavior with an image. This is an image from 25/6/12 that I left in a corner. I opened it back with the same VM I was using (CogVM on Mac) and windows were there and all but unresponsive. I can get the list of morphs with a shift-click on the background and delete them but they otherwise appear dead (not reacting to clicks, keystrokes etc). But the world menu shows and opens new windows without problems. These windows do work. I activated TWM, which sees the objects and is able to layout things properly. But this doesn't help in getting things active again. Anybody having experienced that? It is a 1.4 image. Phil
