I would like to get from you why you use Pharo? After thinking a lot about that recently I think that I would like to have something like that: Pharo a plastic language to build evolvable and debuggable applications. With Pharo and its ecosystem you can build powerful tools (web application, data management, business processesâ¦). Pharo philosophy is driven by domain driven design. Modeling is agile. Pharo is an executable modeling language. Pharo is not only a language but an infrastructure with powerful tools like Moose. Plastic = "(in science and technology) of or relating to the permanent deformation of a solid without fracture by the temporary application of force." Pharo: ease of modeling, essence of agile, close to objects all the time. Stef

Hi What is the maximum size supported for Arrays in Pharo ? I have to manipulate a lot of Pixmaps and large sound files. for example : 30 minutes of 4 channel sounds in 32bit at 48000 Hz = 30 * 60 * 48000 * 4 * 4 = 1 382 400 000 bytes. 1 picture 3648 * 2736 pixels 24bits/pixel = 29 942 784 bytes. How many pictures can I load in memory ? My physical memory is 8 GB. VL.

Usable state PharoMorphicView

Now I hope it should load and work fine for the first look at a simpler morphic UI construction.. Will hunker down and work on a plan.. this point onwards.. I wonder which of these two possibilities to prefer and _why_: UITheme builder message: 'Hello Pharo'. UIManager default message: 'Hello Pharo.' I have seen both, also in the Pharo documentation... Hi, Just for fun, to see how Smalltalk handles precision, 1000 decimals of pi in 10 lines of code. (arctan is redefined not to use floats, change 1000 to 100 for quick result, any variations welvome) in a workspace: | arctan pi | "arctan(x) using Taylor formula" arctan := [ :x :n | | r s | "x must be a fraction- n is the length of the serie" r := (0 to: n) inject: 0 into: [ :sum :k | sum + ((-1 raisedTo: k) * ( x raisedTo: ((2*k) + 1)) / ((2*k) +1)) ] . r ]. PharoMorphicView-Core-App : is a basic package and PharoMorphicView is the full pack. Trying to now wade through the Specs / Presenty / existing capabilities which I can merge with but overall very interesting first time run up with Morphic Experimental Run, but quite usable overall.... plugs in hand in glove with existing primitive morphs. Easy too to get some newbies started with Morphic UIs.. PS: Once comment was nice to hear.. Few new trainees found working in Pharo easier than starting up with VisualAge.. !..
