This version does not add any new concrete functionality but has two main achievements: a performance improvement and a design clean up. Many changes included in this release are part of a design clean up. They are a necessary step forward to new functionalities that are coming soon. They make code more understandable. They enable simpler extension. Happily they also helped to improve serialization performance by reducing unnecessary interactions. And it is specially important a bottleneck in graph analysis stage we have successfully attacked, obtaining great results. Details: - Removed explicit references to cluster classes scattered around the system. For example, in previous versions Float>>fuelCluster has an explicit reference to FLFloatCluster. This version replaces this by a double dispatch interaction. - Clusters: Better reification. Removed annoying IDs. Removed Singleton instance creation mechanism, now mappers manage uniqueness in a better way. - Mappers: They were simplified. New mapping machanism inspired on Chain of Responsibility pattern. The global objects detection has been optimized considerably. - Analyzer: Part of its behavior and state has been moved to a new abstraction called 'clusterization'. DBXTypeNotSupoorted with Glorp

Hi I 'm writing a small app with pharo +seaside + glorp + squeakdbx + sqlite and I have a problem reading null values from my database. It seems that glorp stores a DbxTypeNotSupported in the column description for null values when the first row has a null value (the column datatype is varchar). Any workaround or advice is welcome before I dig into Glorp code TIA Alain

This lectures will cover the fundamental aspects of Smalltalk: syntax, semantics, and key aspects of the system. Doing so we will also revise the real semantics of self/super. cascaded update of objects with Glorp

Hi, I am trying to update a composite object in a database with Glorp. I have a Customer object with a reference to an Address object. In my seaside app, I have a ListView that calls a CustomerEditView when I click on a customer. with: edit: aCustomer | response | response := self call: (self editor new model: aCustomer copy). response ifNotNil: [ self session database update: aCustomer with: response]. (database is a is a facade to the Glorp system, and update: anObject with: anotherObject perform the variable instance assignments of an object to another in a glorp unit of work). when I click on Cancel button in my CustomerEditView, the address is modified in the list with what has been typed in the form. (a shallow copy points to the same Address object) so I tryed: ... model: anObject deepCopy ... And I have a DuplicatePrimaryKeyException in Glorp when I click on the save button, because Glorp don't want to have two different objects with the same primary key - that makes sense. Do anyone know a way to do this in Glorp without updating each field of the linked object (in the final model, I will have 3 addresses), ie, doing the update cascade in a simple way. I am thinking about implementing an updateFrom: anotherObject or copyTo: anotherObject in my Customer and Address objects but it does not fit right with basic types (String, integers etc) and I am sure someone had the same problem before me. Hi, well, I think I'm starting to get the object thing. I coded up the beginnings of a BTree package .. and I think I'm sold on Smalltalk - I really love the debugger!! If anyone has 5 minutes to kill having a look and give some feedback, I'd appreciate it. It's in squeaksource - I think I set it up so anyone can see it ... let me know if it isn't (and how to make it visible too! :) It only has an add function so far (and the page search is only linear - I'll get to that). useage x := BTree withOrder: 2. x add: 11. MAConditionError opens a debugger

Hi, I have a problem with my seaside application using MAConditionError. It's suppose to display a message error and in my case it opens a debugger. Code with MAConditionError : MAConditionError description: self description signal: 'Invalid name or password.'. I don't understand why it does this. To simplify the explanations and reproduce the bug, you can: - download my image on: http://demo.ovh.com/fr/466c8bec0e28467ab3d473647833e0e8/ - copy the service/ dir on your root dir (/) - run the image - go to localhost:8080/sh - try to login with a fake name And then the MAConditionError opens a debugger when there is an error in login. Best way to stop a process listening to a socket

Hi all, Suppose I have a process started w/ fork executing socket>>waitForAcceptFor: with a long deadline. Now suppose that I want it to to stop waiting, before the deadline expires. To stop it immediately, I've found out that signaling it with Process>>signalException and handling it in the Process' code by a Process>>BlockClosure>>on:do: works as expected. Recommended logging API?

Hi all, Is there a recommended package to use for logging? I've found out that Object>>log exists and shoult be used instead of Transcript>>show, and http://www.mail-archive.com/setools@lists.squeakfoundation.org/msg00108.html speaks about different packages or "adapters". Hello, all. I plan on visualizing fractals in Pharo sometime soon. However, there is a bit of a snag. I've figured out enough to write pixels to a form and save it as an image. However, that lacks the immediacy of being able to see it right in Pharo. Morphic is very confusing so what I'd like to know is how I can draw an image in a window, have all the normal window stuff like move and resize, maybe update it, then delete it when I'm done. TIA

Private projects are definitely not visible in the original implementation ( source.lukas-renggli.ch has many private projects that don't show up). Hi all, I'm happy to announce that we have a public, read-only Squeaksource mirror up and running at the Universidad de Chile. The URL is: http://www.dsal.cl/squeaksource/ TECHNICAL DETAILS BELOW. Feel free to broadcast this announcement! MOTIVATION: For us, Switzerland is a long way and the connection to Squeaksource has always been painfully slow. We've set up this mirror to help to address this, and I imagine that it will be of use not only for the Chileans but also other countries in latin america, which is why I am announcing it here. ITS TRANSPARENT: I've worked out a way to make the use of this mirror transparent when using Pharo 1.3: you just use monticello as always, and have a setting to redirect loads from Squeaksource to wherever you want. I have successfully loaded Moose and Seaside from the mirror using this package, so it should work for you. And I can tell you, it was blazingly fast: Seaside loaded in 5m45, and most of the time was spent compiling ... ;-) So try the mirror and the package out, send me your comments, we want to work on this to make Squeaksource a better experience for everybody. HOW TO USE from Pharo 1.3: - Get the redirection package from http://www.squeaksource.com/MonticelloRedirect - To load from the mirror instead of from Squeaksource, do-it of the following: MRManager redirectFrom: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/' to: 'http://www.dsal.cl/squeaksource/'. - To remove this redirection: MRManager removeFrom: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/'. - See comments of MRManager for more info. MRManager list can be useful at some times. - Only 2 classes, < 10 methods, not counting accessors. The trick is the use of MethodWrappers. - I did not test this in Squeak or other versions of Pharo. Feel free to try it out in your environment and send me patches if needed. - There is no UI, contributions are welcome!! DETAILS ON THE MIRROR - It's a full copy of Squeaksource, updated daily. - The mirror is read-only: if you want to make a commit you still have to do it in Squeaksource. This is to avoid all the complications of distributed writes. - Updates happen once a day, before midnight Chilean time. MethodSpy>>isAbstract DNU errors.

Hi - I'm using Hapao (downloaded today) and Pharo 1.3 and noticed that there are a bunch of DNU errors reported in the transcript. The missing method is either from the MethodSpy class or the HapaoTestCoverageMethodSpy class. Adding MethodSpy>>isAbstract ^false "fixes" the errors that are reported to the Transcript. But I'm not sure what the isAbstract test is all about so don't know what functionality I'm missing. Thanks Paul

Using Pier as a CMS for a personal site (layouts and urls question)

Hi all, I'm reading the Dynamic Web Development (still I'm not in the Seaside list or in the Pier, but I'm already part of Pharo, Squeak, Moose and Aida lists, so I'm trying to subscribe to another community when my interaction and questions get bigger) and I found at the beginning of the section "7.7Rendering Lists and Tables" the skeleton of what could be a personal site. Knowing about the existence of Pier I went to see what personal sites where Pier Powered and I have found many that I like. The one I like most is the Doru site at: http://www.tudorgirba.com/ I really like the layout and colors and is pretty similar to what I would choose for me and I thought that this could be an integrated layout in the options provided by Pier (of course if Doru is fine with that). So my first question is: * Could I use this layout? (pleeeease Doru, pleeeeeeease!!! ;-) ) and how? This could be the base for a different layout with the time (that I promise to share also) but is a really good starting point. * I see the blog on Ramon Leon ( onsmalltalk.com ) without the ugly urls and the Doru's site have clean urls. The method to get them in Seaside is documented in the Ramon's blog. Is the same for Pier (being Seaside based) or there is any other procedure? Thanks in advance, Offray

So if he makes the design public, he needs to directly change it again to make his site visually distinct from all the others. Hi, firstly, is there somewhere that explains what the icons in the system browser signify? (eg the three coloured dots)? More importantly (to me anyway) ... I'm confused - why at: is defined in Object and not SequenceableCollection? Jonathan.

Questions about Glamour

Hi all, Following with my idea of Tree like workspace I have started to see Glamour to find my way to the problem. After trying to install it on Pharo and getting some error message I tried the preinstalled version of Moose and followed the Moose Book example[1]. It worked well, and I like the flexibility of glamour to define browsers, but you loose some of the most important characteristic in the Workspace is interactivity (auto-completion, syntax highlighting and so on) So I have some questions: [1] http://www.themoosebook.org/book/internals/glamour/glimpse * Â¿There is any way to make the details panel contain a Workspace?. * When I try the first example in the Bunge's Thesis tutorial: browser := TableLayoutBrowser new. I don't get full autocompletion on TableLayoutBrowser only until TableLayout. This is because this Class is not supported on Moose Glamour, another reason or Am I misunderstanding something else?
