Hi guys I'm thinking aloud... I was wondering if we could not take advantage of a new class: Selector. MethodDict would only contain selectors and not symbols. I remember that I talked about that with hernan. Stef

Package browser?

I am attempting to do the Pharo by Example book, but a package browser (which is used in the examples) is not in the 1.1.1 or 1.2 image. Should I still use categories? If I create a package in Monticello browser I am not able to add classes or anything (not as far as I could see). Just starting out using Pharo, so apologies if these questions are already answered elsewhere.

Z3950 on OSX: module yaz3 not found

Hi, I want to use http://www.squeaksource.com/Z3950 Following install instructions, I've dowloaded yaz sources (I've tried 4.1.2 and 3.0.52) as it seems there's no binary for OSX, ./configure && make && make install. Then using latest Seaside One Click image I've copied /usr/local/lib/*yaz* in Seaside.app/Contents/MacOS $ ls ~/Downloads/Seaside.app/Contents/MacOS/ Squeak VM Opt libyaz.a libyaz.la libyaz_icu.a libyaz_icu.la libyaz_server.a libyaz_server.la libyaz.3.dylib libyaz.dylib libyaz_icu.3.dylib libyaz_icu.dylib libyaz_server.3.dylib libyaz_server.dylib But then I have a External Module Not Found on YAZPQFFFILibrary>>createParser " YAZPQDFFILibrary default createParser " <cdecl: YAZPQFParser 'yaz_pqf_create' (void) module: 'yaz3'> ^ self externalCallFailed Any hint ? Help (perfect for newcomers) migrating a technical FAQ

Hi folks. I had a good idea and and it perfect for someone that wants to help and don't know how. It is not the most entertained task, but I promise you will learn a lot. Mostly, if you are newcomer. The idea is basically to migrate the FAQ that is here: http://scg.unibe.ch/wiki/faq/pharofaq to a new section in the collaborative Pharo book: http://book.pharo-project.org/ So....any takers ? Let us know so that we generate a new user in the Book The idea is also to check whether what is says is still correct for pharo or if it needs an update. Or even how to improve it (from the view of a newcomer). Thanks Mariano

Last pending things for Pharo 1.2

So....here is the list of things I guess are pending: 1) "Release" all configurations included in Pharo (this is, ConfigurationOfPharo and all it dependencies). I mean, we should NOT use or depend on #development versions. 2) Update the one click image to use latest cog images and "pharo prepared vms". There are some issues regarding this... 3) Write down all the things/summary done in Pharo 1.2 5) Update SystemVersion current -->> Pharo1.2rc2 of 27 January 2011 update 12340 6) Condense sources? condense changes? #cleanUpForRelease Cheers Mariano

Do we want this for Pharo 1.2 and futures?

In Pharo 1.0 and 1.1 I used to include certain files in addition to the .image and .changes. These files were: changelog.txt, installScript.st and packages.txt So...what do you think? are they (still) useful ? if true, then we should add it to hudson. If not, we just ignore it. Thanks Mariano

[OT] Blog sequence "Journey through the VM"

Hi folks. I will start a sequence of VM related posts called âJourney through the VMâ, similar to what Igor did in Deep Smalltalk School<http://www.inria.fr/centre-de-recherche-inria/lille-nord-europe/agenda/smal…>. My main focus is that a regular Smalltalker, without any knowledge in VM stuff can understand the basis of it (ObjectMemory, Interpreter, etc). In addition, I expect the reader can download, change, compile, run, and debug (and why not fixing?) the VM. Later on in the journey, I would also like to talk about what the compiler does, what bytecodes are, how to read them, how they are mapped to the VM, etc. I will also show some hooks or tricks that the VM provides and that are not always known. Moreover, I will explain what a primitive is, how they are executed by the VM, how you can write your own primitives, etc. FFI and writing your own plugin are also in my plans. It is important to notice that all these posts are thought for VM newbies.
