Always fun when you want to show the students that everything can be changed in Smalltalk ... Inclusive the behavior of Integer>>+ Inclusive when the current behavior does strange things with the second argument when it is not a number (instead of simply throwing an error), e.g what happens in 1 + 'foo' Inclusive when you are debugging said expression. I'm trying to call markdown as an external process

I'm trying to do something which (I think) is very simple: I just want to run a line of text through Markdown and get the output. I've spent all day reading through the code for OSProcess and CommandShell. It took me a while, but I finally figured out I can run a command and get its output with: UnixProcess waitForCommandOutput: 'ls ~' The next problem I'm having is getting markdown to run on an arbitrary string. If I go into my shell and do: $ /usr/local/bin/markdown <<END > # This is a heading > This is a paragraph with _emphasis_ > END <h1>This is a heading</h1> Then I get the output that I expect: <p>This is a paragraph with <em>emphasis</em></p> I can't figure out how to do this with OSProcess though. I've tried: UnixProcess waitForCommand: ('/usr/local/bin/markdown <<END hello world END') but with no luck. I've also tried using OSProcess at a lower level, setting up the stream input object, but it seems to require a reference to an actual file, rather than just a stream. Anyone have any ideas? I want to take an arbitrary string and use that as the input to my markdown command, and then store that output in an instance variable. I could use some help. Thanks, Pat

Tool for: Image2 - Image1 > FileOut?

Hello: I got here two images without sufficient development history, source code management, or change sets. One of the images is the basis point and the other contains all the relevant code I need to file out somehow so that it represents a diff which can be filed into the base point image easily. I am only interested in classes, methods, and their meta infos, so general state in the image is not a problem at the moment. If it would be only about methods, that would be easy, since I can find out whether it is a changed/new method by locking at the fileIndex. However, for classes that does not work out. How can I find out whether they changed or were added? That seems to be only possible if they were actually commented... Is there any known tool which could produce me a diff/fileOut/changeSet from two given images? Or might there be any other information in the image I could use to create one myself? Distributing 'minimal' image

Hi all, I am planning to put online a minimal image that contains AspectMaps, with some models pre-loaded. Two questions: - Is there an easy way to strip this image of dev tools et cetera? - How can I make it so that I can distribute it without the changes file? (Right now the image complains of a missing changes file if it is not there ...) [ANN] Pharo-1.1.1-dev10.09.1

Hi folks. We are releasing Pharo 1.1.1. This image is exactly same as Pharo 1.1 but based on PharoCore 1.1.1. The versions of the external packages is the same as in Pharo 1.1. The difference is that PharoCore1.1.1 has integrated some fixes and the support for CogVM. This means that Pharo-1.1.1-dev10.09.1 can be run with both, normal PharoVM and CogVM. For CogVM we recommend to use the last binaries that can be found in http://www.mirandabanda.org/files/Cog/VM/. Right now the last one is http://www.mirandabanda.org/files/Cog/VM/VM.r2313/ This CogVM version fixes the problem with "Objects as methods", and thus, all the #run:with:with are working. This means that tools like TestCoverage and AutoTest are working correctly with CogVM.
