I'm a stream doing nothing (NullObject pattern). I can be handy when a stream is needed and that we need to do nothing (for example a logging in off mode). My smalltalk code at that time was probably very suboptimal -- so i too have definitely evolved since then. Nothing fancy: 2d display with little symbols (squares) of various colors, which would update according to state changes in the DB, and then you could right click and use a menu option to invoke a state change. And for the prototype, the db was simply an in-memory model. WebDAV has additional advantage that is supported in many desktop apps like MS Office and LibreOffice. It essentially enables you to "save to the web" directly. For instance you can open an attachment in Aida/Scribo, edit it and save directly back to that attachment. No need to save localy, delete old attachment and attach back new one. What I described should be WebDAV compatible (more or less, I haven't tried). >From where I stand, learning & configuring Apache and friends is a lot more complex and less fun than doing it in Smalltalk. But it also depends on what you want: as I said you have to consider account management, security and probably sharing. Sven
