when was pharo announced to the world?

hi, a trivial question; when was pharo announced to the world? we all could use that day as the one to collectively chip in some amount towards the project's operational expenses. a nice burst of funds, once a year might be a good thing compared to a funding drive (as some of the other open source projects carry out). ~mayuresh

Hi Sebastian, for building UIs I would go with Spec. It however does not support adding widgets without decoration straight to the desktop. Whatâs wrong with having them open in different windows? If the windows keep references to each other they can interact (more specifically if the different ComposableModels keep references to each other they can use each othersâ public API â¦ which you define as their implementer). As for pretty graphs, I recommend Roassal2 by the ObjectProfile guys. It however cannot embed widgets in the graph as this is not its focus. Hi Ben, In this case, why don't you inspect the list to the right and see a preview within the inspector? Curiously, when I run Pharo.app as root via $ sudo ~/pkg/Pharo.app/Contents/MacOS/Pharo pharo30.image NBSQLite3Connection openOn: 'test.db' works, test.db -- owned by root -- is created in the directory where pharo30.image lives, and "OSProcessAccessor forThisOSProcess primGetCurrentWorkingDirectory" gives "/Users/pierce/working/pharo30"! Alright, it is not that curious. Taking away the sudo above, meaning invoking the VM on the command line as my regular UID, still gives the "correct" working directory. So this looks like some strange difference between the Cocoa (or Carbon?) OSX application Pharo.app and the Mach-O executable Pharo.

UI framework&design options

Hi! I need to visualize&manipulate data within a graph representation. Something like the "Maya Node Editor <http://around-the-corner.typepad.com/adn/2013/09/maya-node-editor-and-attri…>". I am also interested in decorationless windows&widgets. Is it possible to embed entry fields, lists and such in the "desktop" of pharo? What is suitable for overlay menus? What would be the current framework to go with Pharo? Which one will still stay for a while (is supported by Pharo) and is thought to be well tested.
