Look carefully, they are both FileReferences, the UI is different. Also, explore the difference between the working directory and the image directory: FileLocator workingDirectory absolutePath. FileLocator imageDirectory absolutePath. The working directory depends on how the image was launched. In V 9.0 if I execute the following | working stream | working := FileSystem disk workingDirectory I get an Inspector on /Users/davidpennington. (Not a File~Reference) In V 8.0 I get an Inspector on a FileReference (/Users/davidpennington/Documents/Pharo/images/Pharo 8.0 - 64bit (stable)). Hi, short answer: you can't (and you shouldn't) :) long answer: conceptually, a presenter does not has an extent because it is not a component by itself, is just a set of other presenters arranged into a layout. However, that does not means you can't know the extent where your athens component will be drawn! Basically, you cannot know the presenter size (or position), but you can know the extent assigned to your athens canvas because the renderer will call your drawBlock with a canvas already initialized. So, you can do something like: athensPresenter := self newAthens drawBlock: [ :aCanvas | | extent | extent := aCanvas surface extent. ... etc ... ]. But! This is poorly documented and even less used, so there may be missing parts (both bugs and things I didn't think on when I implemented the component). How to get dimensions (extent) of a SpPresenter

I'm porting a little Morphic geometry program from Morphic to a Spec 2 application using GTK. I need to draw a shape in an SpAthensPresenter but to draw it I need to know the current dimensions (extent) of the presenter so it can still work OK even when the window is resized. The old Morphic version also used An Athens canvas but I had no problem then as a morph has an extent method that provides this information. But now that I can't use a morph I find that the extent method of an SpPresenter always seems to answer nil. Is that right? How d you get the current size of a presenter? Is it a bug? I'm using a very recent Pharo 9 image and headless VM on Linux. David There is no magic. You should also consider that pharo-ui is a shell script and that you can also read it and learn. The vm is an executable and it needs an image and it cannot guess where you put it. David with the script Stef showed you just downloaded the VM. If you want to download the image also you can use https://get.pharo.org/90+vmLatest . OK this sounds wierd - I installed one more image only with astares/Seaside-Bootstrap4 then astares/Seaside-Bootstrap4 examples started working fine on both images. UK Smalltalk User Group meeting - Wednesday May 26th

The next meeting of the UK Smalltalk User Group will be on Wednesday, May 26th. Caffeine ( https://caffeine.js.org ) is a livecoded integration of the SqueakJS Smalltalkvirtual machine with the Web platform and its many frameworks. Craig Latta will show the current state of Caffeine development through live manipulation and combination of those frameworks. The primary vehicle is a Caffeine app called Worldly, combining the A-Frame VR framework, screen-sharing, and the Chrome Debugging Protocol into an immersive virtual-reality workspace. Craig Latta ( https://blackpagedigital.com ) is a livecoding composer from California. He studied music at Berkeley, where he learned Smalltalk as an improvisation practice. He has worked as a research computer scientist at Atari Games, IBM's Watson lab, and Lam Research. In 2016 he began combining Smalltalk technologies with the Web platform, with an emphasis on spatial computing. He is currently exploring spatial audio for immersive workspaces. Now, since you both got plain and secure connections working, there is no fundamental problem for either type, or the rest of your setup/situation. You seem to have hit some edge, resulting from a small configuration difference in one of the server you are trying to log in to. You say you get a "SSL Exception: connect failed [code:-5]" - we have to find out what the -5 means. As you can see in ZdcPluginSSLSession>>#primitiveSSL:connect:startingAt:count:into: these errors are not specified or explained. We will have to look into the SSL plugin C code for that, and maybe/probably consult the Windows documentation for the system calls used. Apart from certificate issues, it could also be a cipher issue (as in something specific is required but not available). Sven PS: to configure the server (version 13.2), I added the following to postgres.conf ssl = on ssl_cert_file = '/Users/sven/.ssh/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem' ssl_key_file = '/Users/sven/.ssh/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key' the ssl-cert-snakeoil I took from a standard Ubuntu postgreSQL installation. In pg_hba.conf the first field allows you to control access over different connection types: - host = both plain & secure - hostssl = only secure - hostnossl = only plain

Hi, Since you can connect to 3 of the 4 machines, both over plain and tls, it basically works. You will have to find out what is different in the host configurations of the servers.
