Loading TelePharo on Pharo 7

Boostrap for seaside : incorrect JQuery version

Hi all I installed seaside + Bootstrap from the Â« Catalog Browser Â», following the tips at http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~TorstenBergmann/ I run Pharo 7 64bits on MacOS. The demo doesnât react to the mouse clicks. In fact Firefox debugger showed an incompatibility between Bootstrap and JQuery versions : The JQuery Pharo library is 3.3.1 : Is it possible to correct this just by using an older library of JQuery (if I can find one)? Trying to understand Developing with Pharo, Deploying with Gemstone/s

I have an app that is ready to deploy to alpha. I usually do this by creating a script that builds a minimal pharo image, and run that on a cloud server. I then use TelePharo to make any live tweaks that need to happen, and something like: ./pharo Pharo.image "/run/the/script" to keep run cron jobs, etc. I would like to start using Gemstone/s. I got GsDevKithome up and running, with no problems, but I am having a little bit of trouble figuring out how to proceed. I get what tODE is doing, but I donât get how to do the things I normally do: - I got Seaside installed in the image, but I need several other packages in my install: JSON, Soup, AWS S3, etc. How do I go about installing those? - How do I install my main package? Itâs in an Iceberg project. - How do I update my Iceberg project while itâs live? I think those questions will get me into beta pretty quickly. PharoLauncher image preferences (background, etc.)

I want new blank images to be that, blank, and customize each to provide a visual feedback that help me differentiate them at a quick look. #pathString: sent to nil when loading with Metacello

Hi - Iâm trying to pick up the Exercism project again - and when trying to come up with instructions for students to load a clean image from the command line (to fit in with their expectations from other tracks and show that Pharo is also capable of great command line foo) I get the error: #pathString: was sent to nil - when I do: ./pharo-ui Pharo.image eval " Metacello new baseline: 'Exercism'; repository: 'github://exercism/pharo:master/dev/src'; load." Ben Coman mentioned to me that this has something to do with the "pharo-project/pharo" repository being pre-defined in Pharo 7? What does this mean? The repo //exercism/pharo was given to us by the Exercism team to match repoâs of other languages like //exercism/ruby etc. So is this really what the problem is - we canât have a repo that includes the name pharo - or have I misunderstood this? Is there a workaround I can put in the do-it to bypass this somehow? Iâm hoping we might have a good answer, as it was going so well in Pharo 6. Tim

Yeah, Iâm running DrGeo from Applications. Trying open gives you the same result. Yes, Mojave security is a PITA. But other apps downloaded from the web donât have this problem. But I donât develop on the Mac because of Appleâs paranoid behavior. Seems like the method it ends up using, Date>>printDate:format:on:, currently ignores the formatArray given and just prints using YYYY-MM-DD. But there's a ExrendedDatePrinter class that implements the same method and does what you expect. I found it using ctrl-m when selecting the expression and looking at the implementations, but I haven't used it to be sure. RBPattern syntax

Hi, I am looking into the RB pattern language for refactoring and I am having trouble matching and replacing non-trivial pattern. Given the following excerpt, I want to match "b shape <rest>." and replace it with "b shape: [ :x | x <rest> ]" b shape circle size: 15; color: (Color veryLightGray alpha: 0.4); if: [ :value | toBeRed includes: value ] fillColor: Color red. How can I do this? I tried using "b shape ``@messages", but this only matches "b shape circle". Using "b shape `message `;middle; `;last" for some reason then also matches the following, which I think it should not: b edges moveBehind; connectToAll: [ :v | v \\ 20 ~~ 0 ifTrue: [ Array with: v + 1 with: v + 20 ] ifFalse: [ Array with: v + 20 ] ]. There seems not be too much documentation about the pattern language, only found tests, some short help description from RB and Yuriy's MatchTool. How can I match the node correctly? Cheers, Manuel

So beside the signing problem, I have a problem with the OS X vm. The error is the same I got from the Linux VM referenced in the Pharo download page... For OS X (and possibly Windows) itâs worth understanding how Pharo Launcher creates its installation program as thatâs the way to solve this properly and it makes it look much more polished as well. Formatting Dates

The Pharo VM works fine for me. My understanding is that the problem is in the DrGeo.app The app packages together two things: - the Pharo VM with is signed - other files/folders that are not signed If gatekeeper (https://developer.apple.com/developer-id/) detects this the it marks the app as damaged. Gatekeeper wants the apps that you download from internet using a web browser to be signed. Putting BooleanSlot avoids this reversion. I also tried to put RelationSlot just to see what happens and it entered in an infinite loop error. All those things are errors? But most tests there are creating classes not he fly (to test the creation) The only classes using slots are for now SlotExampleMovie SlotExamplePerson which test the RelationSlot examples. If cre2 meets the standard and community agree, I do not care to be honest, I just mentioned PCRE because it is the âde facto standardâ and we are tired of not being compatible :) About an in-image solutions in general: Yes, it is better than rely in a solution like that. Also about in-image solutions in general: It is harder to maintain them. We are a small community and we cannot allow us to have everything we need implemented in image. Using an FFI solution is a perfect valid way and IMO is preferred many times because of this maintainability issue. Of course, it does not applies to all cases with same intensity :) I donât know the cost of maintain a regex lib in-image. I know at the moment is infinite because there is no-one there doing it (and I know I do now have the time). So we stay for years with a suboptimal solution :( Anyway I want to point to some things I (In my âarchitectâ role, or whatever is what I do here) I always think: 1- This solution is state-of-the-art? 2- is it maintained or the cost to maintain it can be absorbed ? 2.1- Is maintained by whom? 2.2- Will this kick us back if maintainers leave? 3- is it well tested? 4- is it well documented? People often forgets that making libraries is a commitment with your user community, is a lot more than âI do this and then I forgetâ. Of course you can proceed like that (and not few of my own projects are of use-and-throw), but we as âpharo makersâ need to take this into account with priority to other variables. Notice that âperformanceâ is not in this list. I care a lot about performance, but I care a lot more about the other points. PCRE has exponential worst-case time. See for example https://www.regular-expressions.info/catastrophic.html but searching for PCRE exponential time or worst case will find more. That's not the problem. The problem is that it isn't *obvious* which regexps are safe and that people are taught that regular expressions can be matched in linear time, which is sort of the point of them. But PCRE patterns *aren't* regular expressions. I am not advocating for PCRE in particular, I just need a regex engine that is just as powerful. I guess re2 serves that purpose, although I haven't used it myself (knowingly). Looking at https://github.com/google/re2/wiki/WhyRE2 <https://github.com/google/re2/wiki/WhyRE2>, re2 actually seems to be a good target. Pharo Launcher and Command Line

Hey, all. I REALLY dig the pharo launcher! this is a great addition. One quick question. How do i go about running a method from the command line? Specifically, I usually run something like: ./pharo Pharo.image ../scripts/setup-client-application.st To set up a new image with the current project. I am not sure which executable to run with this that will execute the same executable as pharo launcher. We organise one Pharo âSprintâ per month were we meet to work on boring issue tracker entries together. Goals of the next sprints: - Fix issues for Pharo8 - Backport important fixes to Pharo7 Remotely, you can join us on Discord. During the sprint, we will try to synchronize local and remote Pharo sprinters. In the past people organised local sprints at the same time (e.g. Santiago/Chile). And can we please solve the problem that BaselineOf cannot be used as Catalog entries (or so I understood it).

Please DON'T move to PCRE. "Outside world standards"? There are so many. There are two important things to know about PCRE: (1) it is a popular open source regexp library for Perl-style regexps, (2) because of that, it is prone to truly horrendous performance problems. There are alternatives, such as re2, https://github.com/google/re2 , which are not subject to PCRE's intrinsic performance pathologies. As it happens, re2 supports *? +? and ??. It flags dowloaded apps and if they contain executables that are not signed they will be marked as corrupted. If I disable Gatekeeper (spctl --master-disable) then I can also run the zip that I downloaded from the web browser.
