Peter There are some references to really old classes :) Preferences does not exist (thank thank thank) for example Have a look at the Settings chapter in the pharobyexample2 book. Excellent! I suggested to stephan to port his book to the Pharo by example latex format and I read all the book but he did not have the time, so I gave up Too bad this would be a valuable book. Now since the license is not the same that the pharo book (i.e. it is free but not share-a-likeâ¦ http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ ) I will not do anything. Nautilus plugin to add chasing implementor browsing

This is my first attempt. Did I do it right? (I'm still learning). It works in Pharo 2.0. To test; load this code in monticello: MCHttpRepository Â Â location: 'http://ss3.gemstone.com/ss/ChasingNautilusPlugin' Â Â user: '' Â Â password: '' Open the Nautilus Plugins Manager (by clicking the drop down arrow at the top right of a nautilus window). Add ImplementorsChasingPlugin. Then open a new nautilus window and look at a method. Nautilus should now show you a list of all the message sends by that method. Clicking on those shows you a list of the places they are implemented. Is there something with this functionality already in Nautilus? I couldn't find it. Cheers.

Text Diff

Hi All, I tried to do a text diff using DiffMorph. But if compared strings contain CR character, the display seems not be accurate. Example: s1 := 'ab', String space, String cr, 'd', String space, String cr, 'ef'. s2 := 'ab', String cr, 'd', String cr, 'ef'. (DiffMorph from: s1 to: s2) openInWindow. In this example, d (on line 2) is highlighted while it should not IMHO. Hello, I am Roberto Minelli, a PhD student in the REVEAL research group at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Lugano. I am exploring Smalltalk, and Pharo, for the first time and I am open to suggestions and tips & trick. Shortly I would like to work on something concrete to get in touch with Smalltalk. One of the things I am interested in, is retrieving entries from an existing PostgreSQL database. To this aim it would be great if some to you could point me in the right direction. ;) I also heard that there are some very cool "extensions" to the Pharo IDE (i.e., code completion, code browsing, etc). Another reason is that there could be a nil in your collection, by design or not, so that returning nil on not found would result in both of these (OrderedCollection with: nil) detect: [ :each | each isNil ] ifNone: [ nil ]. (OrderedCollection with: #somethingElse) detect: [ :each | each isNil ] ifNone: [ nil ]. being nil, so that you don't know the answer to what you want to know. Cool. I am sure that the main reason why FMSound did not work was, that it is by default disabled in pharo. :-((( I checked your snippets and found this behavior: "SoundPlayer boinkScale" works fine, even if sound is disabled in the pharo settings. "FMSound" is working fine", but only if sound is enabled in the pharo settings. "SampleSound" example sounds really strange on OS X. OrderedCollection detect: <- exception if not found?

SUnit is just Smalltalk code and class variables are just objects. If you modify an object it is modified. My approach to this problem is to modify the "singleton" pattern so that a class has both a "default" instance and a "current" instance. The #'current' method returns the current value if it is not nil, otherwise it returns the default value. The SUnit #'setUp' method sends a new instance as the argument to #'current:', and the #'tearDown' method sets current to nil. Most of you code asks for the current value; this will be the default or the test instance, depending on whether or not the tests are running. a quick question on SUnit.. do tests run in their own space? say i have a model like User.. User has a class variable that is an ordered collection of of users.. and thanks very much for posting your update - and with the summary on that directive I believe that many experienced people see config and build/strip and 'base image' issues as the real challenges to Smalltalk in industrial settings ( the success stories may fail to reveal the pain that was endured - the usual caveat) ( even if back in the day the IT pundits carried on about memory footprint, bytecode and VM, not 'C' compiler, so why not LISP yada-yada ) Native widgets, 3D and all the jQuirky web-tricks pale when a mission critical app gets attention from top brass in a corporation because of a bad build or a config snaffu that "would never happen" if we used { here read Erlang, Gnu D or whatever ) What is not seen is the utter madness of trying to get an Eclipse config that is correct (useable code can be committed to a repo from that workspace) when arriving on any large team Java project running on Eclipse in a corporate setting where there is new work, custom work and maintenance. Not that getting started with an appropriate build does not take more than 5 business days often enough .... ( a scandal, yes, but it just keeps repeating - as any gray-haired St contractor can tell you ... ) The 'C' and 'C++' myth as you surely know is called "configure-make" ... If anything like this had been required to land 747's at Hong Kong Kai-tak a lot of people would have been crossing the Pacific in ships and clipper ships ;-) ... and forget about that cardiac bypass surgery at Cleveland Clinic. The problem was resolved. Thanks to Stef and Marianno for their effort to look at the code. The package was actually loaded in two configurations and I was not calling requires: in all locations (duplicate code is bad even in configuration ;-). So, a bit of cleanup resolved the problem. Good thing is that now I know about this directive that helps debugging package loading. subscribe on system change

I want to do some logic when there is a change on the system, like when a new class is loaded or when a method change. I don't want to put this logic explicit on the methods of the system who do that. I would like to know if i could subscribe to those special events (method change, new method, changes on a class and so on) so I can do what I want outside those methods. I heard about the Announcements but I don't know if Announcements could help with this problem. Can anyone give me some highlights to do those things? Thanks! BaseSoundSystem soundEnabled: true just doesn't do all it should. SoundPlayer is the root of all; SoundSystems adds the background thread for multivoice play and mixing. I loaded the package now i a clean Pharo 1.4 Image with the latest update: #14459 (on OS X Lion 10.7.5). The MIDIPianoKeyboardMorph works, but FMSound not (no errors, but silence) For FMSound i tried this - BaseSoundSystem soundEnabled: true. - FMSound organ1 play. Any hints here? For the record, I am also doing an (educational) game. Maybe can we talk about the required features so that we can get a decent game platform. I am investing in Pharo to speed up the delivery lifecycle. I am running sound on Pharo1.4 Latest update: #14452 without problems on WinXP, OSX Lion, iOS5 I didn't used configuration of anything but loaded sound from the repositiory using Monticello.
