OSProcess and capturing stdout

Hi: I'm using Pharo-1.1 OneClick on Ubuntu 10.04. One project I am looking at would require the use of external commands. It appears I can use something like "ExternalUnixOSProcess command: 'do_something --option'" etc. I can perform external commands, but output from these still goes to stdOut. I looked into using CommandShell, but when I try and use this I get grumblings about not findng PluggableTextController and PluggableTextView. Using OSProcess or a subclass, is there a way I can launch an external command but capture the output (say, to a variable)? Does Pharo yet have the equivalent of the c popen() command? Is there a way to load CommandShell without it grumbling about the two packages mentioned above? Any information would be appreciated. Best Regards, Dean Powell Edmonton, Canada

*I think* that Prof Stef is more intended to tutorial-like help, and Help System is more intended to reference-like contents, more like a reference book. That's why you find several steps in a Prof Stef lesson, like a tutorial. I have to document a project now and I intend to use both: Prof Stef to get the user started quickly and using the project, and Help System to other kind of documentation, like how does it work, special comments about some classes, how to extend it, etc. Cheers! ProfStef or HelpSystem ?

Hi all, What are the differences between the two systems ? From what I see, a ProfStef lesson is a collection of pages with buttons to navigate between them. Help System seems to be same except that it can have a hierarchy of pages and is more 'textual' than a ProfStef lesson (the absence of syntax highlighting confirms that?) Now I don't see why there are two different browsers/systems ? Sorry if I'm missing something evident :/ Francois

String insertion

What's the best (most elegant/efficient...) way to insert a string into another string at a given index? Say I have the string 'Toto-Tata-Titi' and I want to build the string 'Toto-Tests-Tata-Titi' I could think of the following: | string sepIndex stream | string := 'Toto-Tata-Titi'. sepIndex := string indexOf: $-. stream :=String new writeStream. stream nextPutAll: (string copyFrom: 1 to: sepIndex). stream nextPutAll: 'Tests'. stream nextPutAll: (string copyFrom: sepIndex to: string size). ^ stream contents Any suggestion? -- Simon
