(and of course you need to use Cog VM with NativeBoost and Cairo library installed on your OS). Now about your goals: yes, it should be fairly possible to generate PDFs using cairo. But more work is needed: this functionality are not exposed by Athens directly. The pango stuff is mostly done by Fernando, so i think he can tell you more. Anyways, if you don't fear to make your hands a bit dirty, we can make it, for sure. P.S. Now i felt for real, what is non-linear progress: this is when more than a single men contributing to project :) Together we are strong. Cairo

Congrats on the release of Pharo 1.4!! Very exciting. Also, Nautilus looks nice -- in my first few minutes of using it. - One of my goals is to generate PDF reports. From Pharo, it appears that Pango/Cairo may give me a solution. And then I saw Athens, and thought it might be helpful. I used the configuration tool to load Athens, but then realized that I need to load Cairo first -- I thought maybe it would be picked up as a dependency... i am not very familiar with these configurations yet, and it appears that it did not install it. As I look around, I am having troubles finding a description of the optimal loading process for Pango & Cairo, for Pharo. My searches keep giving me very old/sub-optimal references on the forums. Nothing that works when i "do it" -- so I am obviously missing something. *Can someone please direct me to web pages describing the optimal loading technique for Pango & Cairo, or provide the Gofer lines here? You can use text converters to convert data back and forth between different encodings. Sqlite and UTF8 Problem

Hi, I would like to access a sqlite database from pharo. So far that seems to work. The only problem is that my sqlite database contains UTF-8 data and that for example Ã is displayed as Â¦Ã. Is there a workaround for this problem ? BTW: I'm using Pharo 1.4 and installed sqlite support like this: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSQLite3'; load. Menubar at the top of Pharo's main window

Hi, First of all, congratulations for the new 1.4 release. Iâm not new to Smalltalk but I am to Pharoâs UI. All I did until now in Pharo was using it as server (Seaside). I saw some applications done with Pharo that show a menu bar at the very top of its main window (lets say, above Pharoâs logo). Iâm wandering how to do that. All samples I saw (and correct me if Iâm wrong) first create a new window (ie a StandardWindow) and then add the menubar and menu to it. Any sample I can look at? Thanks Christian

Organization for the Pharo Conf.

Hi guys, I'm preparing the conference. I would like to make sure that we can get discussion around technology and business. I was thinking that we could have a session where you provide a presentation with 3 () slides - Your business - Your technological asset - What you can share We could put theses slides on the web as an advertisement. What I would like to get is the message that - other people should be able to see that we can do business in Pharo, - that they could get some knowledge, librariesâ¦ I'm looking for your ideas on how to setup the program so that we could have exchange on business opportunities. Pharo conf. Social Event

Hi, For the conference, the lunches and coffee breaks are covered by INRIA and EMD. Now I would like to organize the social event for the thursday evening. Now our team cannot cover it because our budget is tight but I can have a really good restaurant (I know personally the cook). We could have a really good diner for around 30-35 Euros (with a cook cooking everything live in the back). Now I need to know who would like to join. You can come with your partners. So please let me know because like that I can book the restaurant. Stef
