For this kind of situation, my solution is to use a valueHolder instead of storing your string directly in an inst var, store it into the value holder initialize string := '' asValueHolder string: aString string contents: aString string ^ string contents And then what you can do in your initialise is string whenChangedDo: [:newValue | self label contents: newValue ] Something like this should work ^^ The other solution (which is baaad, but can still be seen) is to have a step method refreshing the Morph. How can my Morph reflect changes in the object it displays?

I asked the same question on Stackoverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15534305/how-to-bind-a-labelmorph-textmo…) but as i do not know how much the audiences overlap i hope you do not mind if i repeat it here: How to bind a LabelMorph/TextMorph to a variable so that the Morph reflects changes of the variable? - I have an object with a variable containing a String. - I have a window containing a LabelMorph/TextMorph (or some other Morph that displays Text?). How do i bind the LabelMorph/TextMorph to the variable, so that the label updates when the String in the variable changes? - classic Smalltalk-80 dependent/change/update mechanism? - Pharo Announcement framework? - something different?? How would i do this? Which Morph should i use? MathsOntologie may help a bit, too: There is a "TrianglePlein" object which properties are linked to each other by setters; for example, if you change the length of one side, the area will change at the same time. I found many useful methods of the "point" object, for example the area of a triangle is one of these methods... There are two ways to approach this problem: * Spatial * Vector *Spatial:* As per the pharo by example pdf, you can create a custom TriangleMorph ( they have a cross ). Add the behavior that you mention to the TriangleMorphWithAttributes that holds the plain triangle morph. So on change to the attributes it will modify the triangle. There are challenges to using angle / other geometric approaches in the above, but simple and probably a day's effort. Good for Kid's / early school graphics I am not sure but many other contributions, half way done are there which do have some works in this line of thought including one on Kinesthetics with balls that have a gravity like pull etc.. which are quite good enough. *Vector: * CAD/ Dr. Geo approach: Use a line that makes a Triangle. Perhaps may need to add a surface for color fill also. Typical in CAD is to create a polyline that makes an arbitrary line collection with several points as input. Hi victor For the record in 2002 we got monticello and it was cool. Monticello got three way merge way before a lot of DVCS. :) Now it is a bit showing its limits and age. We are working on having a back end for Git but not at the price to lose SEMANTIC versioning. Then I prefer to get a vector graphics engine than a git back end because this is not because we will have a git back-end that people will be able to sell products! We do not version stupid text but nice classes and methods with method granularity. And we do not want to force everybody to be a master in git to nicely work with Pharo. Then have a look at SmalltalkHub because this is where we are moving (and probably in a git based system). If you are interested by pharo for the web do not miss Amber and Seaside. As monticello can distinguish different methods and classes (probably because it knows it is storing smalltalk code and its syntax). To fit its model into the git and prevent it from making silly merges and things alike, it is necessary to store just one method into one file, model classes by directories, and stuff remaining meta info into the (currently controversial) json encoded meta files. It is quite clever and practical solution to fit Smalltalk model of work into the git storage, but I guess it is a bit unusual usage pattern for git. And certainly I would not expect anyone to do any serious browsing or looking at the code just by looking into such git directory on local disk, or through generic git web interface. My point that I was trying to make is that just plain git does not seem to be clearly superior to monticello/metacello, but combination of git and montiocello in the direction FileTree seems to be taking is.
