Topic search - Learn programming with Smalltalk

Are there any good books or resources focused on *mainly* Learning Programming. (with Smalltalk would be a great bonus) I'm not looking for yet another class, syntax, other language compare etc... Just one of those books that's filled with real exercises and medium sized programs that you get to actually get to complete and experiment with. *I found these to be of great clarity:* *Smalltalk, Objects and Design by Chamond Liu* (I wish the account example were a little more detailed, and the initial slow pace would extend throughout the book, it tends to accelerate to fast) *Just ordered Discovering Smalltalk by Wilf LaLonde* (I have a feeling it would be on the same level) It would be great if you could recommend such a book, resource. PS. I feel i read a great deal on the subject but never actually completed a piece of software that's even remotely complete, the pieces just don't fit. The problem is myself! I forgot stuff, I forgot to commit figures, to double-check if references and labels are consistent, if figures are referenced somewhere... So either I have to be very very disciplined, or I automate it :). I use git over svn, so I sleep properly at night at least :P what's the real problem you're dealing with? SVN client and latex parser, are any there?

Buon giorno! I got pissed off when committing latex and figures and stuff into svn by command line... So, for playing the weekend, does somebody know if there is any package implementing an svn client (maybe using osprocess, i do not care ;) and a latex parser? Tx! Guille

Start using an image that we build on jenkins for example Seaside ((we should have a seaside jenkins job) if not we should do one. Please someone add a bug entry if there is no seaside build.) And load some of the package you need to build your application. - you can read the monticello/metacello chapter on the Pharo by example 2 book. We are working on automatically a process and tool to validate all the packages and dsitribution. This way we will all be sure that configruation are loading. We are also working on a tool to express configuration. So let us know what is missing for you to build your application. Stef

I'm still trying to get to the point where I can produce a working application and be familiar with how things work in a proper, modern OO system. Installing Moose from Monticello packages takes a lot of time as it is large, so I recommend downloading a development build from http://www.moosetechnology.org/download/4.8 I fully agree that suggesting to install #stable versions of configurations where stable is not defined is not very useful.
