great work jannik I still keep an open eye on phratch I have not forgot you , but I wanted to improve some things first before porting my code to Phratch. I will also have to think a correct approach for bringing blender and its game engine to phratch. [Ann] Phratch 4.0

Phratch 4.0 is out of the box ! Phratch 4.0 is cleaner, faster and more stable than phratch 3.0. After the version 3.0 that was a release for usability and stability, phratch 4.0 is released to prepare the future. The new features are: - phratch is more modular, eg having a kernel and lots of addons. - cleaning a lot the source code - customizable environment - each block can be made visible or invisible - each category can be made visible or invisible - it is possible to add translation for addons with the pragma <phratchTranslation: âfrâ> in the class PhratchTranslator. This make the translation more modular. - first integration of phratch with the pharo environment. Using the pragma at the class side of any class in Pharo make the class visible and usable in phratch. - There is a lot of things to do with phratch, you are welcome to contribute ! The documentation for new features will arrive soon. Pharo has a single AFAIK GUI API , Morphic. Anything else uses Morphic to draw its own widgets so those API are more like helper apis . Which means a good knowledge of morphic will always benefit you. Spec is the new kid in the block and it has been a preferred choice for most pharoers , many pharo widgets that come distributed with pharo are built with Spec. Also Spec is the most documented one with a dedicated chapter at Pharo for the Enterprise book. On experimental side there is Mars , never tried myself , it gives access to GTK and native gui APIs. I have also tried to port pyQT to pharo via my project Ephestos, I have run to some problems because QT is very touchy with threads and its also inside a blocking event loop but I have found some workarounds. Cant say when but I will bring QT to Pharo sooner or later. So my advice would be to give Spec a try for now. GUI Frameworks Choice

Hi All, I'm new to Pharo although not to Smalltalk. I did dabble with Dolphin about 20 years ago, when it was first being developed, and did some quite cool stuff. This time around I chose Pharo because I feel that Dolphin has strayed from the pure OO model that I enjoyed back then. I've chosen a fairly ambitious GUI project as my Pharo primer. The problem is - which GUI framework to use. The GUI that I want to build will be static but complex with a menu, 2 toolbars, 20 odd toolbar buttons, and 3 (dockable?) windows, containing Trees, lists and text editors. Any suggestions on which GUI framework would suit? I thought about using PolyMorph, but I cannot find the examples in my Pharo 3 image. Craig

Yes, I tried in VirtualBox. Same issues here: used OSProcess to query for the DHCP given IP address and noticed that AioPlugin is not available. I like that it is a naked Pharo 3.0 image. So I would not preload the command shell - one can easily provide a config in the config browser for additional things or load an own config via script/network. So one could adopt to its own needs with a simple additional loading (like switching to themes, logo, ...). And yes: keyboard layout switching is required. Really nice! Can the ISO image building get automated so we can have a CI script that builds an ISO for Pharo 3.0, current 4.0 and others ... Â Thx T.Â Gesendet:Â Donnerstag, 16.
