pharo books as audiobooks

Hi all, I'm interested in listening to the pharo books as audiobooks, away from my desk. I read them to learn higher level concepts and can get back to the code boxes later to look up the details, so I'm not too worried about how to exactly convert the code boxes to audio. One way to enable this would be if the books were served publicly as static HTML. One can then use the Pocket App to save them and listen on the go. In theory this should be something that the CI system could just be set up to do, right? (There are apps to convert PDFs to audio too, but those I have been able to find are inconvenient and / or expensive.) Is anyone who is already familiar with the CI system interested in setting this up? I'd love to help but don't have the time, unfortunately. But I'm happy to provide feedback. I'v cheers Siemen

Pharo at JPL

Hi everyone, I just saw the news (on Twitter) that JPL (NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory) has joined the Pharo Consortium. Does anyone here know what JPL is doing with Pharo? If it's related to scientific/engineering applications, that would be a nice marketing argument in the scientific/engineering community. Konrad.

Pharo.exe and PharoConsole.exe VM Difference

Hi, What is the difference between the Pharo.exe and PharoConsole.exe? They have the same size, but are binary different. I'd expect the PharoConsole to run headless by default, but it is not the case. So... is this documented anywhere? Thanks! Esteban A. Maringolo

Smalltalkhub is now in archive mode (static version)

Hi all, Since May, Smalltalk is in read-only mode, allowing people to get back their data and move it to another forge if needed. We had several unexpected downtimes with the deprecated version of Smalltalkub (different software stack due to server migration). To enhance the user experience, we put the static version of Smalltalkhub Â« SmalltalkHub archive Â» on-line as the official http://smalltalkhub.com service. It was already announced that it will be done in November but we decided to do it earlier because it improves the current state: - faster and reliable downloads from smalltalkhub.com (mcz files are no longer stored in a Mongo DB but served as static files) - Smalltalkhub archive still allows to list projects, search for a project, see packages, contributors, commits - deprecated version of smalltalkhub is still on-line until November at http://deprecated.smalltalkhub.com/. Maringolo > Hi, I usually commit without pushing, then in a new image I add my local clone and launch the install of the baseline. An alternative is to take a clean image, update the baseline by hand, and load it if you don't want to commit. Checking baseline before publishing

Hi, How can I check that my baseline works without having to publish everything, check that it fails and then going to the origin, fixing, etc? I might be particularly idiot to always miss something, I usually have to try at least four times (in a blank image) that my Baseline, dependencies, etc. works as expected. Thanks StÃ©ph, I guess the right directory is {imageDirectory}/pharo-local/play-cache/ there are some .ph files representing several playgrounds. One further question: it seems to me there isn't a history of the playground, right? So if I make multiple changes to a single playground, they are lost. Also on the upper right corner of the playground, you can get old playground (maybe on command+s? not sure). Not every one of them will be here, and you may have to use Stephane's answer. Pierre.
