Running Pharo 5 on Ubuntu 16.04

Installing a metalink on a subclass not overriding a method

Imagine the following: I have a class âParentâ which has the following method Parent>>name: aString name := aString I also have a subclass of a Parent called Child. Now I would like to attach some behavior via MetaLinks for the method âname:â but only for the Child method, is that possible? Naturally I could just override the method and have Child>>name: aString super name: aString And then attach the metalink to that, but thatâs not nice because you have to create extra methods (which is extra work/code if Parent has more subclasses) Alternatively I could attach the MetaLink to Parent and do type-checking, but that would br very complex and error-prone (Parent has a rather wild family). Ideally I would like for the MetaLink to install to the child even though the method doesn't exist. Is that somehow possible? Thanks, Peter

Thanks Mariano and Cyrill for your answers. The reason for trying to make STON lighter is to use it as a document format for interactive notebooks. When I saved the notebooks nodes from the graphical interface their content become Text instead of strings and it generated a lot of format information with #runs, TextColor, and other information that was not necessary for the notebook and made the format heavy. I had problems trying to detect were the conversion from String to Text was taking place, so I added an extra message before serializing the notebook in STON that takes any node content and convert it from Text to String. [ann] pharo consortium membership matching campaign

Hi, The Pharo Board is proud to announce a special campaign for attracting new Pharo Consortium members during 2016: http://consortium.pharo.org/web/Membership A new fund has been created from which the Consortium will receive the equivalent of one yearly membership fee for every new member, and the increment in yearly fees for every upgrading member. For example, if a new company joins the Consortium as a Silver member (2000 EUR / year), the fund will contribute a one-time amount of 2000 EUR to the Consortium. Similarly, if a company upgrades from Bronze (1000 EUR / year) to Gold (4000 EUR / year), the fund will contribute a one-time amount of 3000 EUR. This campaign will take place until the end of 2016, or until the fund is depleted. Currently, the fund totals 21000 EUR, a sum which is graciously supported by three companies: - LabWare Inc (http://labware.com) - ObjectProfile (http://objectprofile.com) - feenk gmbh (http://feenk.com) This is an exciting development that paves the way to attract more industrial interest around Pharo.
