finding Pharo Launcher

where can you get a ready to run Pharo Launcher from (I am interested in OSX but other OSes should be answered as well). I would like a Pharo 5 64 bit one to try but I can understand only a Pharo 4 one being advertised. I looked on the Pharo Downloads page <http://pharo.org/download> and could not find it. Googling just gives announcements of it and old messages for email lists. and latest is <https://pharoweekly.wordpress.com/2016/01/15/pharo-launcher-spur-and-prespu…> which gives the Smalltalk Hub link which is not much help to getting started I suspect it just needs a small edit to the downloads page to make it findable for me but if it is to be used as an entry point then perhaps it need to be made more obvious on the pharo.org pages. -- Thanks Mark

ODBC question - could not coerce arguments

Hello Everyone! I'm facing a problem with ODBC which may be related with character encoding. >From the debugger, it is: *'Could not coerce arguments'* , error message is caught here: externalCallFailed "Raise an error after a failed call to an external function" | errCode | errCode := ExternalFunction getLastError. "this allows us to look at the actual error code" ^self error: (ExternalFunction errorMessageFor: errCode). The SQL command is (runs well in SQL Server manager): update gcp_users SET user_name='VERGA VeszprÃ©mi ErdÅgazdasÃ¡g Zrt.', user_name2='', user_city='8200 VeszprÃ©m', user_custom_1='88-591-545*', user_profession='Jutasi u. 10.' WHERE user_email='molnar(a)drfrohlich.hu' AND user_custom_2='0524' The sql statement above is copied from the debugger as well, caught here: sqlExecDirect: queryString connection checkSQLReturn: (ODBCLibrary default sqlExecDirect: handle statement: queryString length: queryString size ) statement: handle. being as the querystring, class *WideString* (!?). I'm trying also to convert it to CP1250 (which has all the characters I need, actually data comes from a CP1250 txt file and converts well into pharo system) but it also results in a WideString object.. Example: (CP1250TextConverter new convertFromSystemString: 'Å±Ã¡ÅÃ') --> shows WideString in debugger. I think CP1250 should result in a ByteString... Is this the problem (could not coerce arguments). thanks Robert

Ok, I made a cleanup on the OSWindow joystick support. I also added the OSWindowGenericRenderer interface which is implemented by a thin wrapper around the SDL2 renderer interface. I have tested this on Linux using a XBox 360 controller (using SDL2 GameController interface) and a PS2 controller via an USB adapter (using SDL2 Joystick interface). There is joystick support in 4.0, but not in Unix (plugin looks pretty empty). Smalltalk vm listBuiltinModules select: [ :each | each beginsWith: 'Joystick' ]. I just made the bindings for the GameController API, which is more useful, since you do not have to worry about different joystick layouts. Thanks Damien, I'm sorry...yes visibility is exactly what I meant, and on a Mac as well. You are right that some invisible things start with a period (on a Mac as well, so that's easy), and others have the invisibility flag set. Should I be able to use OSWindows to use getfileinfo from within pharo? I haven't been able to figure it out yet, and am kind of "starting from scratch" with Pharo (again) because I haven't tried it out for a long time (for various reasons). However, I have recently been inspired by how I have to work with Windows at work (I use Parallels). I decided to look at Pharo with fresh eyes as just another OS that could do different things in the same way that I do some things only in Windows (my company provides a Windows-based object database platform for data quality written in VisualWorks). This paradigm shift has suddenly freed me from "I want to write Cocoa apps in Pharo" mode. I manage all my projects in a simple file-based manner so I can easily switch back and forth (between Mac and Windows) as needed, and take advantage of the Parallels features to "Open in Windows," or "Open on Mac," as well as Desktop sharing. I thought it would be an interesting exercise to try to create a way to work with files and folders in a similar fashion in Pharo (shared desktop, better file browsing, etc...), and my first sticking point was "what if I don't want to see all these [invisible] files." I'm hoping I might be able to learn Spec that way, as well as communicating with the image to provide a similar "Open in Pharo" service (for pharo application files I might invent), and of course I need to know how to interact with the Mac OS as well, so this seemed like a nice, small place to start.
