Thanks Tomohiro Oda! I have unchecked the option "use custom SSH keys" and it's working perfectly. Is it an issue or maybe I missed something? Hi Torsten, Further ... I just saw that SBSDevelopmentLibrary contains CSS & JS - however its for 5.0.1, Further the download library may not contain popper as mentioned in getbootstrap The JS library loaded thru html script is 5.0.2 (its in updateRoot: and renderContentOn:) If this has a bearing to carousel, collapse & modal not working then a clean up may help I tried importing the 5.0.2 JS/CSS files in a FileLibrary but it thru an error. Dropdown and Navbar dropdown are working, but carousel, collapse and modal are not working. also, i don't know if it is relevant - on the bs5 doc homepage (at https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.0/getting-started/introduction/) : 1. it says css file https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/bootstrap@5.0.2/dist/css/bootstrap.min.css must be loaded before other stylesheets, but i couldn't see it loaded. 2. Preserve VCS history while renaming package

Hello, Is it possible to rename a package while keeping code history? When I do that, for example, rename from A to B, Iceberg shows me that A is no longer loaded, it is not aware of the refactoring. If I remove A and add package B and prompts a commit, it shows me like all inside B is new and that A was deleted, losing the renaming history link. Is it possible to keep that link, and workaround or such thing, or for now it isn't supported? Thanks, Vitor

Hi Sanjay, Have you looked at the differences between BS4 and BS5? Among the main differences are: - removes jQuery as a dependency and uses vanilla JS instead. - replaces default looking form elements by styled ones If you're starting from scratch it might be worth trying it, and maybe fix whatever glitch there is, otherwise BS4 is pretty stable and suits most needs. Yeap, I like how they're built, and it has a good use case for Traits! I'm using both BS3 and BS4, the latter has more support for CSS Flex layout (which I still don't master). Thanks for this! Hi, after some of you are using https://github.com/astares/Seaside-Bootstrap4 I wanted to let you know that I just published the new / updated project to support for Bootstrap 5 web development (https://getbootstrap.com) in Seaside using Pharo. Project location is on GitHub: https://github.com/astares/Seaside-Bootstrap5 It might not be fully complete by 100% with all new possibilities of BS5 - but it is usable and tests are green in Pharo 8 and Pharo 9. Updates from the trenches...

Hello community Just a little mail from holidays to let you know that from September on we will try a new organisation. Pharo 9 (with Covid and amount of work) was stressful for us. Seriously we deliver more than expected so we did several meta meetings (and we will continue) to understand how we can work with less stress. In particular we want to be able to give better feedback to the community while being able to deliver the large items we have on our plate. In a nutshell every month we will have - a full working day around - design ideas such as https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/wiki/01-PhIP-Simplify-Pragma-Storage - new tools such as MethodProxies to look at our lovely system in different ways https://github.com/pharo-contributions/MethodProxies - code review - a full internal bug/issue internal sprint we want to be able to concentrate on issues that require concentration and we want to make sure that we can provide feedback and integrate PRs that need brain. - our monthly open sprint (we hope that Covid 4th wave will not break our fun once again). I reset my laptop and after restoring the repo url to the https url I'm able to push...anyway https is deprecated, in any moment I should change to ssh but not today... I could use iceberg via SSH in both Pharo 8 and Pharo 9 on OSX. When I check the "use custom SSH keys", I got the authentication error. To do that, you need to register your SSH public key to github and set your local repository to point your github repository via ssh. Key registration can be done on the settings page of your github account. Zeroconf downloading latest rather than stable

Hi there. I have done a clean install of Pharo 9.0 using the zeroconf on get.pharo.org. I am using curl https://get.pharo.org | bash When running the environment, I get a message at startup telling me that my VM is too old and that I should install a newer one - I am running it on an M1 MacMini. However, after discussions on Discord, it seems that the above script installs the latest âstableâ, not the latest VM. How do I get out of this little wrinkle? David

I'd been poking the site every once in a while, and found that the Bootstrap UI steadily degraded, because I'd pointed the site's .css at some non-fixed version from some CDN server (so that .css must have changed over the years). The uptime on the machine was over 1000 days, and there have been many emails over the years about network, hardware, etc. changes. After years of unattended reboots, some relic was still up. Anyhow, that instance is now deleted, probably soon to be joined by a more recent setup where I started with the DO 1-click docker droplet. This setup was useful to learn about docker, and I might go back to it in the future. Given Estaban's comments in this thread, I decided to do a bare nginx + Pharo image deployment (which is similar to the now deleted 6 year instance described above, which had Apache2 instead of nginx). Thank a lot for directing me toward SpFilteringListPresenter. I think I found a bug in SpFilteringSelectableListPresenter. While using an SpFilteringSelectableListPresenter, if you press ctrl-a, every item in the list will get selected. Then, if you deselect a few items and press ctrl-a again, this time nothing happens. However, if you scroll the list, all the items are suddenly selected again. This happens because the block that get invoked when ctrl-a is pressed doesn't refresh the presenter. With very few exceptions, no important programming language ever âdies.â Even APL and Forth are still in use today, if only in a small way (including their derivatives like J and Factor). But from the perspective of the programming community at large, if a programming language no longer has a large user base, itâs effectively dead. This may not be fair but there you have it. We may argue that it doesnât matter. If Smalltalk serves a small community well, thatâs the important thing. I take a broader perspective. We live in a technological world where software development productivity is a serious bottleneck. Smalltalk has the potential to greatly alleviate this bottleneck. Cutting development time in half (or better) matters a lot. This, I believe, is what we must fight for. We may fail. Indeed, we *probably* *will fail*. But if we donât try, we definitely will fail. I guess I agree on the question being wrong. There are quiet a few people I think did incredibly important things, not only to Smalltalk. What about the people behind the Refactoring Browser (John Brant? and I guess a few less prominent people who did some of the groundwork), for example? Seaside has been mentioned already, but there are other milestones, like TOPLink or Glorp (Alan Knight and his ex-colleagues). Then there are people who did a lot of ground work that tends to be unseen. Niall Ross has been working in SUnit, RB, Rewriet Tool and Glorp literally for decades without getting any laurels because he "only" carried these milestones forward and kept them working. And there are quite a few people who did amazing things that we tend to forget about. The success of Smalltalk (and even if we are not mainstream, our language has survived for 50 years and will not go anywhere soon, some hyped technologies won't even make 10, not to think of 20 years) is based on the work of so many people. What about Vanessa Freudenberg, The whole Squeak and EToys community, OpenQwaq and scratch? OLPC? What about the authors of the Design Patterns Smalltalk Companion? James Robertson's Podcast was wonderful and I miss it a lot. But he had people on the podcast who also made it a joyful experience: Willow Lucas-Smith and David Buck come to mind. Anybody remember how much energy Randal Schwartz once put into Smalltalk marketing? I have only been in the Smalltalk world for the last 26 years, and everybody I am mentioning here has been working on the foundation that has been built for them a long time before that. Rebecca Wirfs-Brock? Martin Fowler? Eric Clayberg? Joseph Pelrine are just a few names that immediately com to my mind. And I am sure I am forgetting more important names or even never heard of them. We are standing on the shoulders of Giants. Some may even not be aware of what they did. Partly because they have moved on to other languages and communities. Likas Renggli, Julian Fitzell, Vassily Bykov, Michel Bany, Martin Kobetic, many of the Eclipse guys. The list is just too long. In the context of Smalltalkâs 50th anniversary, the reason I asked the question is because I noted that in APLâs 50th anniversary celebration, they gave an award to the one individual who was deemed the greatest contributor to APL. So I thought I might do the same for Smalltalk. But now, Iâm seeing that was somewhat wrongheaded. Yes, it is the community that made Smalltalk what it was, and what it is today. Singling out one individual seems unfair, and rather arbitrary. Maybe Iâll conduct a poll with these suggestions and let the Smalltalk community express their support with their votes. That may even provide some insight.

The most visible Smalltalk at the moment/last 5 years and in my estimation what/the only thing that drives new users to come to Smalltalk is Pharo, and the person that is most responsible for that is Stephane Ducasse. I think his contribution to Smalltalk as a whole is underrated. The commercial Smalltalks exist only to server their legacy client base and others like Squeak and Dolphin are nice but are invisible. The late and great James Robertson should not be forgotten. He promoted all Smalltalks with enthusiasm and expertise. I miss his podcasts. I have a soft spot for Dolphin. I agree with Richard OâKeefe about Dolphin. It is beautiful as well and well-esigned, and the creators Blair McGlashan and Andy Bower deserve some recognition for their work. Vince

I'd like to call Stephan Ducasse for special mention for providing the free Smalltalk books site. And I'd like to mention all the other people who contributed to the Squeak books and the continuing Pharo documentation work. Producing good documentation is hard work and when you're not being paid for it, reveals a deep commitment to the community of users. Nobody else has mentioned Claus Gittinger of Smalltalk/X, a fine system. Then there is Dolphin, which is the most beautiful Smalltalk I've ever come across, and which is the only reason I bother running Windows on any machine. There is innovative work in both systems. perhaps the world's most *beautiful* Smalltalk system, the worst feature of which is being Windows-only. I agree wholeheartedly with Tim. I first started with Smalltalk in the Digitalk days. My experience then and throughout my Smalltalk experience with VW, Squeak, etc., I have never had a community that helped me learn and embrace Smalltalk like Pharo and the Pharo Community. To me, if I cannot be successful with the product, I doesnât really matter how great it is and who is involved (again, to me). If you really want a name - Iâd say Stephan Ducasse and Marcus Denker - I heard them stand up at Esug 2007 (Lugano) and really call out a vision for a malleable environment that was Smalltalk inspired but would let them properly experiment with new language ideas (I recall in particular the reference to reified inst var slots to let them manipulate programs more easily when experimenting). This was possibly the foreshadow to Pharo, and it took about 10 years of incremental improvements to achieve that exciting 2007 vision that I recall painted at the time. It certainly didnât happen in a day , and itâs still happening now as we read this, and the job is still not done. But in a way Iâm kind of reluctant to name, names as so many people have piled in around that community vision to make something that will continue to live and experiment. But to Stephan/Marcus and everyone else - hats off to you for creating something that is fun and productive to use, but more importantly is inspiring enough to contribute to.
