I'm also looking forward to Hi-DPI support being fully implemented in Pharo. Until then, there is the "Display scale factor" slider and the ability to change the font size. However, most have probably already noticed that these controls don't affect the size of the mouse pointer, which can be annoying as it's much harder to find on big screens. I recently found this posting, which is helpful: Scaling for HiDPI in Pharo: 1.) Evaluating "MenubarMorph reset" will fix the menu bar scaling factor. 2.) There's a SQUEAK_FAKEBIGCURSOR env var which you can set to 1 to have the VM display the cursor twice as big as normal. I've no idea why the word 'FAKE' is part of this; from the source it looks like it just creates a normal X11 cursor that's twice as big as normal. This should work with Cuis, Squeak, and Pharo, as it's part of the VM. I found that entering "export SQUEAK_FAKEBIGCURSOR=1" will cause standalone Pharo to have a normal-looking pointer on 4K displays, but this does not seem to work as expected with Pharo Launcher, or images launched with Pharo Launcher. After some investigation, I determined that the 'pharo-launcher', 'pharo' and 'pharo-ui' bash scripts (for Pharo Launcher and Pharo IOT) can be modified to make this work. The trick is to add "env SQUEAK_FAKEBIGCURSOR=1" to the front of the command that launches the VM/image within the above scripts. I've fashioned a set of 'sed' one-liners to automate editing these scripts accordingly, and am in the process of making a bash script that will use them to add/remove/verify these edits in a user-friendly fashion. (I also have scripts that install Pharo Launcher and Pharo IOT in Linux, that create & add clickable launcher icons; my plan was to modify these scripts to write the cursor size correction scripts into their respective folders when they're installed.) [ANN] Round 2 Results Are In

The cells in blue have *negative *energy values! The object is to maximize the score. The winning team comes from Nepean High School in Ottawa, Canada. Next week's round, Round 3, is particularly interesting. The board will contain Death cells (if the robot enters one, it dies and the simulation is terminated), Jump cells (where it jumps ahead n cells in the direction it's moving), and Warp cells (where the robot "warps" to another location on the board). The Round 3 map I've created for the board is particularly challenging. I can hardly wait for that round! Richard

The "ifs stink" dogma is about *type* testing, not *range* testing, and this is range testing. It is also a tiny piece of code which can only be made *less* readable by trying to avoid the ifs. Remember the slogan YAGNI? You Ain't Gonna Need it? The time to go for a more elaborate solution is when you HAVE to. Do The Simplest Thing That Could Possibly Work. Developing on Mac Catalina 10.15

Hi. The Pharo application I developed is offered to users in Windows, Linux and macOS based on the three VMs available on the Pharo website.I basically download the VM, add my image and some resources, rename stuff and put a nice icon, and it's ready to be deployed.Now, since mac updated their users to Catalina (10.15), I've noticed that my application won't work anymore, and it seems to be related to the signature required by Apple. If I download the Pharo VM fromÂ https://files.pharo.org/get-files/80/pharo64-mac-stable.zipand run it, it works. If I open the package contents and add stuff inside the /Resources directory, the application seems to still be working (with those minor changes it would even still just open Pharo and not my app).BUT if I upload it to my Google Drive, and then download it, it no longer works, stating that it's broken and must be moved to the trash. If instead of adding stuff inside I just rename it and change its icon, I can upload and download it and it opens Pharo normally. So I'm guessing, since the _CodeSignature directory was not present in older Pharo Mac VMs, that someone knows how to work with those signatures, and that it must be the key that's missing to make it work. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any tutorial, mail discussion, or whatever that might tell me how they made it work for Pharo might help me make the changes I need to the .app and get my product working. Thanks!
