[OrderedCollection] add a reference or a copy?

I think my understanding of OrderedCollections has been incorrect for a very long time. I have never had a situation where it mattered, but in modeling a current project, I think I have been approaching it incorrectly. Since I have been using Smalltalk, I assumed that a copy of an object is added to an OrderedCollection. A quick test shows that a reference to that object is added to the OrderedCollection. I just wanted a sanity check on this. Is this true with all collections? Transcript had a 1.25GB WriteStream - maybe a bug with clearing the Transcript?

Hi - On Pharo 7.1 64bit mac mojave. My images grew to 1.4GB, so I ran ImageCleaner cleanUpForRelease. Smalltalk cleanUp. Smalltalk reportCPUAndRAM. to begin to track down why & I found that I had 1.3 GB of ByteStrings. (ByteString allInstances select:[:ea | ea size >1000]) sorted:[:a :c | a size > c size] gave me a list of 1174 strings. running self collect:[:ea | ea size] showed me that the first one in the list is 1245704483 characters long. And the next biggest one is 520714 (that one is the highchartsJS library stored in a MCMethodDefinition) John Brant's ReferenceFinder & the "Open pointers to" shows that the very long String is the collection of the Transcript's stream. The only thing that got rid of the big string was running Transcript initialize. 10 timesRepeat:[Smalltalk garbageCollect]. Then saving/closing/reopening the image. I had always assumed that when you delete the contents of the Transcript, by selecting everything in it and deleting it ,it was all deleted. Or when running Transcript clear Or one of the "clean up" methods like those above. Anyway. It seems like the stream should clear more often than it does (looks like it may never empty itself? I don't think there is code in the image that does that though. WriteStream>>#reset & WriteStream>>#close do not empty the #collection or #stepContents inst vars. And it doesn't look like there is a method to empty/re-initailze those inst vars defined in the Stream hierarchy in 7.1 or 8.0. I made an issue https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/issues/4074

Hi Hilaire, I imagine that you can use Grafoscopio from DrGeo, in the sense that you can have both installed in the same image and use Grafoscopio to organize and save playgrounds that have DrGeo code scripts made by your students, that they save when necessary. I tried to install DrGeo, but the installation script failed. This was my (not working) procedure: Â - Create a new image from Pharo launcher called DrGeo. Â - Install bazaar. Â - Went to the root folder where the DrGeo image is located. Â - Ran `bzr branch lp:drgeo` Â - Ran http://ws.stfx.eu/1MWID38XGAO9 Â - Got "Error: Instances of UndefinedObject are not indexable" So you could test it by yourself by installing Grafoscopio in a working copy of DrGeo and let me know who it works. By the way, there is any form to install DrGeo without cloning the local repository and using tonel from a local directory? Maybe something that publish DrGeo repo also to SmalltalkHub while more DVCS are supported in Iceberg? where are system settings stored?

I am currently using Pharo 7.0 and I've just discovered that my "local directory" is /home/dhenrich/rogue/_homes/rogue/_home/dev/clients/gci_70_tst/pharo-local: This file has to date back to the beginning of the year and i had deleted that directory structure a week or so ago before starting on my (totally unrelated work) and didn't discover the problem until i tried to run an image created locally up on traivs[1], where this bug[2] manifested itself and I eventually tracked the source of problem to the "local directory" setting ... Now I would like to know where the pharo settings file is hiding, so that I can avoid running into this problem in the future ... ... I've poked around in the Settings Browser looking for the default location of the settings file. There's "Store Settings" and "Load Settings", but nothing that allows me to find out/control the location of the settings file itself ... ... I only got to this point by tracing back from allinstances of OmSessionStore to a class var where the "directory" was stored and then got the settings browser by looking at senders ... but now I've run out of ideas. I assume that this is common knowledge, but not quite common enough for me:) Thanks in advance for the help. .package directory tree

All, Newbie Question: I filed out a whole package by right clicking on the system browser package name and got a directory structure similar to the following: packagename.package -> monicello meta -> categories.st -> initializer.st -> package -> version -> properties.json -> Class.class -> class -> some.st -> another.st -> instance -> some.st -> another.st -> methodProperties.json -> properties.json -> AnotherClass.class -> same as Class.class directory structure above Issue: How do I file this all back in? There seems no way to do this in any easy fassion. Trying to file the .st's by themselves creates dependancy nightmares. If I can file this out in one singe click does it not make sense that I should be able to do the reverse in on single click or am I manually forced to recreate all my code? Thanks!
