Hello fellow Pharoians (?) from a lonely Swede. I just found out about Pharo (and Smalltalk) two days ago and I'm already loving it :) However, there is a behavior I would like to change, or be enlightened about how it could be done. As I understand it (bear with me) BlockClosure from Kernel-Methods does not understand (by default?) how to respond to an "anonymous object" (no message name). Is there any way this could be implemented? I'll post an example soon (I currently use both Pharo 7 and 8) If I write the following: [:x | x + 1] value: 3 and evaluate it, I get the expected result, which is 4. That's nice. What I would really like is to be able to just send 3 to BlockClosure and make it repond as above. Like this: [:x | x + 1] 3 or like this: 3 [:x | x + 1] Would this be possible? ----------------------- Also as a bonus, would it be possible to use this for "function composition", "Block composition" or similar? Example of composition: [ :f :g | [ :x | f value: (g value: x) ] ] I could use this construct like this for example: (([ :f :g | [ :x | f value: (g value: x) ] ]) value: [:x | x + 1] value: [:x | x - 1]) value: 5 Butâ¦ It's a bit wordy. What I would like to be able to do (essentialy remove "value:"): (([ :f :g | [ :x | f (g x) ] ]) [:x | x + 1] [:x | x - 1]) 5. Or in one line: (([ :f :g | [ :x | f (g x) ] ]) [:x | x + 1] [:x | x - 1]) 5. While this might seem obscure, I would really find it useful. Can it be done? The error you hit was because the package loader was smart enough to notice that there was a version conflict between the version of a subproject already in the image and what the new load instructions were telling it to load. The title of the debugger you pasted in alludes to that fact. So what you need to do is decide what to do when there is a conflict as its tricky for a package manager to figure out what it should do in every case. Metacello includes an instruction #onConflict: which accepts a block. You can write code in the block to decide wether to use the incoming version or the extant version in the image or whatever. e.g. Metacello new repository: 'github://PierceNg/glorp-sqlite3:pharo7'; baseline: 'GlorpSQLite'; onConflict:[:ex | ex allow]; load. would likely get everything to load without issue. Then you'd have to run the tests to see if the version conflict caused problems. Pharo Smalltalk Users mailing list wrote > Nice! Nice! Thanks. So here is maybe a stupid question (and I'm gonna read the wiki stuff on packages next) but it seems to me that the package loader should notice that glorp is already loaded and not load it if glorp is specified as a prerequisite but instead it fails. Is the package loader not smart enough to understand what is already loaded and skip load attempts? Moving pharo

Today is a big day for some in Denmark. We are moving an old landmark lighthouse 80m inland. https://media.scribblelive.com/2019/10/22/72511d80-c9c1-4a19-b8d8-eec2cad61… I have the feeling it is not that different from moving Pharo. Its underlying text model seems to be similar to smalltalk (attributes). At the moment I am less interested in (developing) a wysiwyg editor. Also I am not going to try and make a *full* pillar renderer (I am not a pillar fan). As Julien wrote, class comments (and perhaps even regular comments) rendered in rich-text based on markup is my first goal. I am still picking up Pharo and all it tooling, so it is slow progress atm. Btw, in the comments for Rubric a project named TxText is mentioned. I presume it is either integrated into the system and has lost its name, or it stalled? Best, Kasper

Hi Norbert, Kasper, I, for one, am /*very*/ interested in being able to edit Pillar documents in a wysiwyg fashion. And of course I then want to write out such a document as a text file with Pillar markup, so that I can commit that document to a Booklet repo, to be compiled into a PDF. I was looking for a way to view a Pillar markup text file, as an aid to composing/proofreading. There is a plugin for Atom, but it appears to be so old (and unmaintained) that it no longer renders correctly in the latest versions of Atom. So I have been making due with using Markdown preview, but it's far from ideal. You have something like this started? Need help? Script to download specific Pharo version

Hi, We have a Linux script to build our image and was working well until recently. It seems that the failure is related (not confirmed yet) to https://github.com/pharo-project/pharo/issues/4764 Becuase it fail to load Seaside into the Pharo image.
