VoyageMongo questions

by john pfersich

Has anyone tried to use VoyageMongo to connect to a MongoDB instance not on the local machine? I used the VoyageMongo from Smalltalkhub like the "Persisting Objects with Voyage" said and it looks like I had the same problem that Sabine mentioned on Discord; "Not enough space for external objects, set a larger size at startup", but there was a (another) problem and the image was toasted. I then tried to load VoyageMongo into Pharo 5 from the Catalog Browser and there's an error and it won't load. Any hints on what I'm doing wrong? I'm using Pharo5.0 Latest update: #50761.

Re: [Pharo-users] Implement Matrix whith OrderedCollection

by Sven Van Caekenberghe

Because all 16 elements of the first/top ordered collection contain the exact same element. They are all #==, the same instance/object. If you change one, you change them all. Here is one way to create what I think you want: OrderedCollection new: 16 streamContents: [ :out | 16 timesRepeat: [ out nextPut: (OrderedCollection new: 16 withAll: 0) ] ] BTW, Arrays would be better in this case, I think. > On 30 Apr 2017, at 23:08, frankl1_miky <mike1corporation(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi everyone, > > I'm figuring out a strange behavoir with OrderedCollection. Implement Matrix whith OrderedCollection

by frankl1_miky

Hi everyone, I'm figuring out a strange behavoir with OrderedCollection. Actually I've created a matrix using OrderedCollection like this: /c := OrderedCollection new: 16 withAll: (OrderedCollection new: 16 withAll: 0). c./ But when I try to set the value at row 1 and column 2 to be 50 like this: /(c at: 1) at: 2 put: 50/ I instead get 50 in any cell of the second column and I don't know why. When using a Matrix and the massage at:at:put, the behavoir is normal. Why that strange behavoir with OrderedCollection? -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Implement-Matrix-whith-OrderedCollection-tp4945002.ht… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

However, Process is a Pharo user level class, not something private to the implementation of the vm. Any programmer should know what to expect and what to not expect when different Processes are started, and how they behave and interact. It's part of the general knowledge of the Smalltalk programming model, on par with Object, Class and Behavior. So, before I switch to the pharo-dev list, let's wait and see... BTW, it seems that reference [1], containing the charts you mention, could not find its way in your reply. Can you please make it available? Greetings Raffaelo

I've counted half a dozen reports of people burnt by it and stability concerns can only discourage more people from testing Pharo 6 beta. The answer ever time has been to use vmLatest, so why not someone just log onto the files server and manually rename the current "-latest" to "-stable". Don't take time to determine which "latest" is most stable. Any seems a better choice than the VM with *known* compactor bug. You'll likely get better answers in vm-dev list of pharo-dev list. Can you post any follow ups there? ProcessScheduler doesn't have much to do with context switching, except providing the #yield primitive for a user to invoke manually. As you noted, the actual context switching happens in the VM. The charts here [1] might be useful to get an overview of the execution loop. Keep in mind though Its a very rough view of a novice exploring the Cog execution engine and may not be entirely accurate. But it will give you a starting point. Process scheduling

by raffaello.giulietti＠lifeware.ch

Hi, I can't find a description on how ProcessorScheduler in Pharo (i.e., Cog) is supposed to do context switches in absence of other synchronization points. Is it following the BlueBook spec? Just to recall that model, the VM, when about to execute the current bytecode instruction of the current Process, checks whether a strictly higher priority Process is ready to run and if so, switches to (one of) the highest priority among them. Thanks in advance for clarifications. Greetings Raffaello

Re: [Pharo-users] Pharo 6 / VM crashes

Hi, About the best way to help... A reproducible case that we (VM developers) can reproduce easily is the best way to help. If we do not have a way to reproduce your bug, we cannot do anything about it. The best is an image which crashes immediately after start-up or a do-it that reliably crash the system, combined with all the version numbers (OS version, vm version, pharo version) or a crash dump file which includes all those version numbers. Trying another version of Pharo (like 5 instead of 6 like you did) and the latest VM over the stable is another thing you can do. If you can prove that the bug comes from recent images or recent VMs it helps us as we know where to look (in the VM or in the image). As Oleks said the bug you mentioned should be fixed in the latest VM. The latest VM will be promoted to stable in the incoming weeks for the Pharo 6 release. Sorry for the inconvenience. Re: [Pharo-users] Dark theme and white vs. green color

by Stephane Ducasse

I can tell you that for me the green is a lot more difficult to read because it is too saturated. During a long period I could not use the dark one because of the saturated red error color. I could just not read what was written. Re: [Pharo-users] MOOC offline download

by Stephane Ducasse

The github folder contains just the source. Yes I will do a iso image and put it. Now it will be around 10gb. I got a script that is called starterKit that should be updated and collected all the resources to actually build the iso. I was looking for a service to produce DVD. If people want to help this is the moment :) On Fri, Apr 28, 2017 at 7:23 PM, Ben Coman <btc(a)openinworld.com> wrote: > > > On Fri, Apr 28, 2017 at 5:11 PM, Stephane Ducasse <stepharo.self(a)gmail.com > > wrote: > >> Hi ben >> >> I do not really get the request? >> Because people can download the file and the portal. >> > > I could not find a whole zip file of entire course, only the individual > files which would be a pain to download, > and did not know of the git repo. Re: [Pharo-users] Voyage - collecting data from Mongo

by Ð¥ÑиÑÑина ÐиÑайлÑк

Hello, Holger! When I'm using MongoTalk in Pharo 5 and MongoDB 3.4 I can only get a list of existing databases, using command Mongo default open databases. But when I want to get some database's collection (Mongo default open databaseNamed: 'SomeDatabase') collectionAt:'SomeCollection'. it returns nil to me, although there is this collection, with some data at MongoDB. But when I'm using MongoTalk in Pharo 5 with MongoDB storage for example 2.6 version everything works fine. Even at Pharo 5.0, there are built-in Mongo Browser and it gives the same result - show the only list of databases. What it the problem? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Khrystyna. 2017-04-30 12:27 GMT+03:00 Holger Freyther <holger(a)freyther.de>: > > > On 30.
